While a permanent price drop may be on the horizon, right now, an Xbox One X retails for $499. This price tag makes sense considering it's technically the world's most powerful home video game console, and the price doesn't seem to have deterred too many consumers from picking one up, but some may be more interested if they could get it cheaper. Luckily for those holding out, it's possible to get an Xbox One X for just $200 right now through the latest GameStop trade-in deal.

From now until August 28, consumers can trade in their pre-owned consoles toward a new Xbox One X system. Trading in a PS4 Pro will knock $300 off the price of an Xbox One X, and while that's the best deal, players can still put a serious dent in the price tag by trading in other systems as well. For example, anyone looking to upgrade from their Xbox One S to an Xbox One X can knock $250 off the price (effectively making the Xbox One X just $250 instead of $500), and the same goes if someone trades in a regular PS4 or a Nintendo Switch.

The original Xbox One console that released back in 2013 will also help players upgrade to an Xbox One X for a lot cheaper than it would be otherwise. Anyone who takes their original Xbox One console to GameStop during the promotion can trade it in to get $200 toward the purchase of an Xbox One X.

While taking advantage of this deal does require players to trade in another console, it's still the cheapest way to get an Xbox One X at the time of this writing. For Xbox One owners who are looking to upgrade to the much more powerful console, it may be a no-brainer for them to take their Xbox One S or Xbox One into GameStop while the promotion is going on.

Others may want to hang on to their cash, and wait to see what the Black Friday deals this year will have in store. It's also possible that the next-generation of Xbox consoles, codenamed Scarlet, will be available in the next couple of years, so that's another potential big purchase consumers should keep in mind.
