Latest Xbox One Update to ‘Prepare for the Future’

By | 1 year ago

As gamers await a glimpse at the future of gaming during this year’s E3, it would appear that Microsoft is already prepping for that ever-approaching window. While specifics on that future are still being kept secret by the massive company, a new update for the Xbox One has been released in anticipation of the format’s next major steps.

While the update doesn’t appear to have done anything upon being successfully installed, Director of Programming for Xbox Live, Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb has confirmed that this update is to get the console ready for imminent content.

As Major Nelson claims, the patch of sorts is to “prepare for the future,” which could mean any number of different things. Largely, that some bigger updates and features are planned for the platform – which no one ever doubted – but it’ll be interesting to see what Microsoft has in mind for the system in the months ahead.

Microsoft’s E3 2015 press conference, however, will be a good place to showcase any major upgrades. That said, with a focus set to be on first-party and exclusive games, it’s more likely that news will be arriving at a later point in time via a post on the official Xbox website. Still, with the likes of Halo 5: Guardians and even the recently-teased Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 it makes sense that the company would hold off on some of the blander, behind-the-scenes details.

Whatever Microsoft has planned for the Xbox One won’t be shrouded in mystery that much longer, and while the Gears of War Ultimate Edition has been ousted by leaks, there should be an ample amount of surprises as well – case in point, Rare’s newest game. Whatever the company has mapped out, it should make for a worthwhile watch at the very least.

Recent Xbox One updates have added everything from voice messages and dedicated party chat servers to the ability to take screenshots while mid-game. Keeping those in mind, it’ll be interesting to see what’s next for the ever-improving console, as it’s hard to say what new features are planned for the hardware at this point in time.

Microsoft’s Xbox E3 2015 press conference will kick off on Monday, June 19, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. PDT. With it will come a plethora of gaming announcements and updates, so stay tuned to Game Rant for news on any and all information that surfaces during the showcase.
