The Xbox One is the platform for many RPGs, but not all of them had great storylines. While some were smashing successes, others didn't live up to the hype. 10 NieR: Automata (Amazing Storyline)
With the bulk of the game being action-oriented, this one may come as a surprise. NieR: Automata is set in a dystopian world where machines are in control of the world. A human resistance seeks to reclaim the world from dreaded machines. The story of NieR: Automata is surprisingly intriguing, even if it doesn't have as much depth as other Xbox One RPGs. The main storyline is excellent, making this one game you can't miss!
9 Fallout 4 (Not Worth The Hype)
While Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3 passed expectations with flying colors, Fallout 4 fell short of high expectations. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype that was built on the previous Fallout games.
The story is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the protagonist has his wife killed and his son kidnapped. Shaun is the driving force behind the development, but the plot rarely revisits its premise. Loose connections make Fallout 4 not worth the hype.
8 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Amazing Storyline)
Time and time again, we return to this widely acclaimed RPG because of its storylines. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has the main storyline, as well as many other side storylines. They can be found in libraries of in-game books, as part of a DLC side quest, or told by word of mouth. At nearly every turn, the game grips you into its lore. Alduin the World-Eater is poised to take over the world. Who is the Last Dragonborn, and can he stop Alduin?
7 Anthem (Not Worth The Hype)
There is an abundance of phenomenal dystopian storylines on Xbox One, but Anthem doesn't live up to its hype. When we first saw Anthem's gameplay, it looked like BioWare was going back to its roots as a leading RPG developer. Unfortunately, the story is the weak point of this RPG. Overall, the game feels rushed, and this applies to the story as well. It was expected that Electronic Arts and BioWare would overhaul the game, yet the story still feels generic.
6 The Outer Worlds (Amazing Storyline)
Developer Obsidian Entertainment's The Outer Worlds deserves placement among Xbox One RPG juggernauts because of its intriguing storylines. Each planet contains an overarching story, as well as side stories nestled within the game. You might want to play The Outer Worlds twice to get the most out of its story. Depending on your in-game choices, each person might have a different ending.
5 The Technomancer (Not Worth The Hype)
The strong point of The Technomancer is its gameplay that is enriched by combat styles, character customization, and skill trees. The ability to influence the game's events is an uncanny feeling that needs to be in more games. It's too bad that the game becomes more frustrating and tedious as it progresses. It could've wound up being like Mass Effect 2, but the main storyline didn't live up to the hype.
4 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Amazing Storyline)
From the beginning of the adventure, players maintain an influence on the game's events. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt adds layers of complexity with romance options through dialogue choices. The storylines will take you to places you never thought possible. There is the main story about Geralt of Rivia finding his missing adopted daughter, but there is so much more beneath the surface. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt undeniably has impressive storylines.
3 Kingdom Hearts III (Not Worth The Hype)
Kingdom Hearts III was supposed to be the nostalgic Disney-Final Fantasy crossover game featuring Sora and friends. The game was meant to be a timeless instant-classic that cleared up most of the previous games' confusion. Although the game did end on a positive note by providing closure, Kingdom Hearts III's convoluted plot gets in the way of us enjoying the story. The game's target demographic is young adults and kids, but it's much too confusing.
2 Hellpoint (Amazing Storyline)
This Souls-like may not have earned the acclaim its developers were hoping for, yet the story does manage to impress. The story takes you to a derelict space station where you fight against mysterious creatures.
Hellpoint's strong point is the game's story, but not the gameplay. Hellpoint falls somewhere short of expectations, yet the premise of Dark Souls in outer space seems to be appealing. Who are the Cosmic Gods, and what place do they have in this occult sci-fi RPG?
1 Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot (Not Worth The Hype)
Rather than be a fresh RPG based on the Dragon Ball anime, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot a retelling of a familiar story. Dragon Ball Z has phenomenal story arcs, but we've heard them too many times. To the credit of the game, there are non-canonical elements that make the game enjoyable. However, the majority of the game is a retelling of the original story without sufficient new content.
