It’s amazing to look at just how far video games have come since the industry's early days. There are dozens of ways that the current generation of gaming has evolved from the previous one, but besides the aesthetic improvements, games are now able to be much longer due to the size of media and the capabilities of modern hardware.

More content is sometimes a good thing and provides added value to a purchase, but there can also be times when a game is needlessly long and dilutes what would have otherwise been a pleasurable experience. For those that are looking for lengthy experiences on the Xbox, there are plenty of options available.

HowLongToBeat has been used as a reference.

10 Borderlands 2: Game Of The Year Edition (Average 30-125+ Hours)

The Borderlands games are wild and weird. They're the perfect mix of shooters, RPGs, and open-world madness. Borderlands 2 is such a delight not only because of great characters like Handsome Jack, but the world is incredibly fun to explore, especially when four players go at it together.

There's easily over 100 hours of content to work through here and the Game of the Year Edition throws in more bosses and content to make a huge game even more gigantic.

9 Assassin's Creed Odyssey (Average 40-120+ Hours)

All of the Assassin’s Creed titles are massive, but that’s also become a growing problem with the series. These games have spun off course in many ways and thrown in so many missions that it can feel more like a chore than the work of an assassin.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is the apex of this problem. The game does some fun things with the Ancient Greece setting, but completely finishing the game will take over 120 hours, with a lot of that being repetitive tasks.

8 Kingdom Come: Deliverance (Average 40-125+ Hours)

At this point, it’s practically a given that any open-world RPG title that's set back in medieval times is going to be a considerably long and deep experience. Kingdom Come: Deliverance tells an elegant story of revenge and morality as players can push their hero’s epic journey in many different directions.

This huge world offers plenty of variety between its castles and forest terrains. Dedicated gamers who want to complete the game 100% will easily be at this for at least 125 hours.

7 Dragon Age: Inquisition (Average 45-125+ Hours)

It's a safe assumption that people that enjoy dragons also are fans of long narratives that dig into every corner of their unique worlds. Dragon Age: Inquisition's Thedas is an amazing world that may be in a tumultuous time, but that just means it will take even longer to restore peace.

Dragon Age: Inquisition's base campaign should take close to 50 hours, but experiencing everything in the game can require around three times the investment.

6 Red Dead Redemption 2 (Average 50-150+ Hours)

Red Dead Redemption 2 Arthur Riding A Horse On A Ridge

The Red Dead Redemption series is basically like if Grand Theft Auto was set back in the Wild West. Red Dead Redemption 2 improves upon its predecessor and Rockstar Studios has packed this title full of content.

Between the main story and copious amount of extra missions that are available, seasoned players may take around 40-50 hours to complete the core campaign. There is such a full and immersive world here that sinking hundreds of hours in the game isn’t ridiculous.

5 Fallout 4: Game Of The Year Edition (Average 30-200+ Hours)

The Game of the Year Edition decks out Fallout 4 with any additional content that's come out and it's the definitive version of Bethesda's post-apocalyptic RPG series. Like other Fallout titles, the game is what players make of it. It's possible to breeze through the game in around 25 or 30 hours, but anyone who's actually invested in the game will give the Wasteland the attention that it deserves.

The world can be changed in so many ways that those who don’t invest in shelters and extra qualities are shortchanging themselves of hundreds of hours of content.

4 Forza Motorsport 5 (Average 50-200 Hours)

Forza Motorsport 5 is a bit of an anomaly because it's a racing title rather than a gigantic open-world adventure. That almost makes the scope of Forza Motorsport 5 even more impressive. The Xbox series prides itself on its authenticity and customization.

This is in prime display in regards to all of the cars, tracks, and parts that can be obtained and experimented with. It's kind of ridiculous that a racer can take nearly 200 hours to fully complete, but for fans of the genre, Forza Motorsport 5 is the ultimate title.

3 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Average 30-225+ Hours)

Bethesda's Elder Scrolls franchise is practically synonymous with incredibly long video games. Skyrim, the fifth game in the series, has turned in the franchise's breakaway hit and come out for practically every platform available.

The Empire of Tamriel is one of the biggest playgrounds to explore in a video game. Skyrim has so much to discover, but the presence of magic, dragons, and an ancient evil adds further depth. Those that want to try to fully finish Skyrim will find themselves sinking over 200 hours into the game, but that's part of the reason why the title is so beloved.

2 The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (Average 50-200+ Hours)

The latest entry in CD Projekt’s The Witcher franchise, Wild Hunt, is at this point the apex of this impressive series. Players control Geralt of Rivia as he searches high and low to find his missing daughter. Despite that seemingly focused mission, The Witcher 3 excels with its open-world gameplay and how immersive of an experience it is.

The core game may take some players around 60 hours to complete, but with multiple endings, numerous side quests, a huge quantity of monsters, and a gigantic world, it’s easy to spend over double that in The Wild Hunt and still have lots to do.

1 Monster Hunter: World (Average 50-350+ Hours)

Capcom's Monster Hunter franchise has taken some time to catch on in America, but the latest titles in the series have been massive successes. The game's title is not an understatement as there is just so much to explore and discover in Monster Hunter: World.

A basic playthrough will take around 50 hours, but those that want to experience the full game and all of its challenges better be prepared to set aside hundreds of hours.
