Microsoft marketing executive Yusuf Mehdi states that the Xbox One will have the best lineup in Xbox history in 2016, with exclusives such as Gears of War 4.

Xbox One owners may have enjoyed 2015's lineup of quality games, with the likes of the impressive Rise of the Tomb Raider causing a stir. According to tech giant Microsoft, however, Xbox gamers can expect even more from the year to come. The company's marketing executive Yusuf Mehdi has stated that 2016 will be the "best lineup" in the history of Xbox.

The marketing exec was speaking at the Credit Suisse Technology Conference in Scottsdale this week, and was quick to praise the strength of the Xbox One's 2015 game schedule. "If you like to game, this is the year to get an Xbox," said Mehdi at the conference. Waxing lyrical about the likes of Halo 5: Guardians and Minecraft, the Microsoft executive then firmly stated that "next year will also be the best lineup" of Xbox games.

The Xbox One may have gotten off to a rocky start to life, but Microsoft is certainly now confident that the console is on the right track. This year has seen the latest Xbox receive not only a strong selection of games, but also some great additional features. An over 100-strong list of backward compatible games has been released, whilst the new Xbox One Elite controller is potentially the best controller on the market.

It's a long way from the console's initial launch, where sales were dwarfed by competitor PS4. Although Sony's device may have won the most recent Black Friday sales battles, Microsoft has seen a steadily increasing share of the market, and the publisher is expecting even more in the future. Indeed, Microsoft is actually estimating that "millions" more will purchase an Xbox One.

That said, there is still plenty of work to be done to maintain the level of success that Microsoft saw during the course of 2015, and perhaps the best way to do this is to deliver a stream of worthwhile content. Although there are several must-have Xbox One games, console owners will no doubt expect to see plenty more where they came from.

It's essential, then, that some of the highly anticipated games of 2016 live up to the hype. Exclusive titles such as Gears of War 4 will no doubt be a huge pull, but entirely new intellectual properties such as the often-delayed Quantum Break will need to be of a huge standard to help the Xbox One stand out even more on store shelves. Let's see whether Microsoft can continue to build the console's stature.
