ESPN Promises a College Bowl Showdown on Xbox Live

ESPN, the worldwide leader in sports news and broadcasting, has traversed multiple mediums, including television, radio, the internet, and a few others. Recently, the sports channel made its ESPN3 programming available to Xbox LIVE gold members for no extra cost outside of the Xbox Live Gold membership. With the college bowl season approaching, ESPN today released a new software update for their Xbox Live app that greatly enhances the viewing experience and gives gamers a chance to participate in a College Bowl Showdown pick 'em contest.

If you have not tried ESPN on Xbox Live, you should know that the ESPN3 portal gives sports fans the means by which to stay updated on almost every game in every sports league, and it offers 3,500+ live sporting events yearly. Additionally, users have the ability to play, on demand, any sporting events, highlights, and video clips previously aired live to the site. For the sports-fan gamer, this is an absolute godsend. The new patch for this service will add the College Bowl Showdown, where fans can predict winners for each bowl game this year, receive scores for correct picks, and compete for prizes and bragging rights against friends. Other features of the new software update include:

  • Controller free navigating with motion and voice control through all video clips and highlights (Kinect required).
  • The ability to “play all” of the ESPN video clips and highlights, or customize this video to include only sports and leagues of your choosing.
  • "Games at a Glance" gives you the ability to check scores from sports all over the world without leaving the game you’re currently watching.
  • Out-of-Market games that are not aired on television are now available to watch anytime.
  • Xbox Live Gold members, who are customers of ESPN3 affiliate broadband providers, will be able to stream all 35 bowl games this year, including the BCS Bowl games.

ESPN’s Xbox Live College Football Showdown is now up and running, giving you the chance to access your inner Lee Corso. Will TCU prove they deserve a shot at the National Title? Will Auburn’s Heisman winner Cam Newton be victorious against Heisman runner-up LeMichael James and the speedy Oregon Ducks? Time to put up or shut up.

All who enter the College Football Showdown will automatically receive a token for an ESPN Xbox LIVE avatar T-shirt, and those fans that watch streaming content between 1/1/10 and 1/11/10 will receive a token for an ESPN Avatar Helmet. Fans over 18 years of age will also be registered for ESPN’s College Football Showdown Sweepstakes for a chance to win a free trip for two to the 2010 ESPY’s (ESPN’s Yearly Sporting Awards) or a trip to ESPN headquarters itself.

What's not to like about more free content and chances to win prizes for no additional fees? If you are a college football fan, this could make the bowl season even more interesting.

Are you excited about ESPN releasing this new software update? Will you be picking winners on’s Xbox LIVE app this college bowl game season? Is there anything you don’t like about this service or would like to see included?
