Following the release of Xbox's next-gen systems, the publisher has certainly had its hands full. While the Xbox Series X/S has received plenty of system updates, both consoles continue to struggle to stay in stock a full year after the initial release. However, for the players that have managed to require either Xbox console, a new feature will soon be rolling out that should help with user accessibility.

A certain trend that has become more prominent within the gaming community as of late is controller mapping. Each player responds differently depending on whatever system they are using. In fact, a number of Japanese studios will sometimes program button prompts in a different order that Western players aren't always accustomed to. While button remapping is featured with both Xbox One and Xbox Series X controllers, the share button has remained untouched, until now.

Over on Twitter, an engineering lead for Xbox named Eden Marie, announced that Xbox Alpha Insiders will be able to remap the Xbox Series X controller's share button to a variety of custom actions, such as Quick Settings and accessibility options, to name a few examples. Typically, the share button on the Xbox Series X controller is used to efficiently share gameplay clips and screenshots on social media platforms.

Right now, this update is meant for Xbox Alpha Insiders only, but it's likely that if this new feature goes well, it will release publicly at some point in the future. For many Xbox users, this is a good thing, considering that while the share button is useful for a lot of players, it can lead to a number of accidents during active gameplay, should players decide to hit the button at an inopportune time.

In any case, it's nice to see that Xbox has remained reactive in terms of not only updating its hardware and software, but also listening to user feedback. With so many challenging plaguing those who haven't been able to even purchase a console, as a result of people scalping Xbox Series X consoles, for many Xbox fans, it's encouraging to see Xbox continue to improve the system when necessary.

It will be interesting to see what Xbox has in store in terms of its next-gen hardware. It has only been a little over a year since the worldwide release of the Xbox Series X/S and there are still plenty of Xbox exclusive games, such as Avowed, Perfect Dark, and Starfield, that will soon be available for players to enjoy.
