While fans are still a week away from getting their hands on God Of War, reviews are already flooding in online and they have been almost universally positive. Combing amazing visuals and gameplay with a heartfelt engrossing story, the latest installment in the seminal PlayStation franchise looks to be a rousing success and praise has been coming from all over, including from Sony's biggest competitor.

In a tweet earlier today, Xbox Head Phil Spencer congratulated SIE Santa Monica Studio and the president of Sony Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida for the acclaim God Of War has received over the past 24 hours, saying "Looks like a special launch for the franchise, great job." Yoshida responded not long after, thanking Spencer for the kind words.

Spencer wasn't the only major player at Xbox to send praise to their longstanding rivals, with Xbox Live Director of Programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb also tweeting Sony Santa Monica and Yoshida to say congratulations.

Its always nice to see the faces that represent the major consoles treating each other with such mutual respect, even if it isn't all that uncommon. Spencer, in particular, has always been seen as holding an honest respect for PlayStation, a trait that has earned him much love from gaming communities. In the past, the Xbox head has not only regularly voiced his support and admiration of his competitors work, but also his distaste for those who wish to create a divide among console gamers.

Phil Spencer Discusses inclusivity

God Of War sees yet another acclaimed title added to the already successful PlayStation exclusive slate. While Xbox and Microsoft have garnered some goodwill from features like backwards compatibility and Gamepass, the companies exclusive slate has always been seen as lacking, especially when compared to the likes of the Uncharted series, Last Of Us, and Horizon: Zero Dawn on PS4.

Regardless, its good that the Microsoft and Sony retain open and positive dialogue with each other. Both companies are largely made up of similar people who share a passion for games and communication can only serve to help each of the companies create a better product for gamers. While ideas like cross-play might be wishful thinking for now, who knows what these two giants could accomplish together.

God of War is set to release on April 20, 2018 for PlayStation 4.
