Although the bulk of Microsoft's Xbox E3 2018 presentation put a focus on the present and what is coming in 2019, there's always a little bit of time to look to the future. After the Gears of War 5 trailer and just before the Cyberpunk mic drop moment, Phil Spencer took a few moments to talk about what Xbox is working on behind the curtains.

He didn't share many details, but Spencer did confirm that the Microsoft hardware team, responsible for the Xbox One X, is currently busy architecting the next wave of Xbox consoles. Unfortunately, he didn't going into any kind of details about what that means.

At this point, there's no confirmation about whether these consoles are another update to the Xbox One or if they would mark the start of a brand new console generation for Microsoft. Considering the big year that Microsoft has planned for the Xbox One and Xbox One X, it seems very unlikely that this mystery wave of consoles would be replacing the current machines any time soon.

There was no mention of a release window, so it's likely that we won't hear anything else about this hardware for quite some time. For now, just keep an eye out for Xbox One X price drops...

There is currently no confirmed name or release window for the next Xbox console.
