Microsoft reveals the games that will be made available for Games With Gold in March, including the likes of Lords of the Fallen and the original Borderlands.
As March draws near, it’s once again time for Xbox Live Gold subscribers to take stock of what games await them in the coming month. Now, Microsoft has confirmed what games will be made available through the Xbox Games With Gold scheme, and March’s list includes some big names.
As per usual, two games are available for Xbox One and two for Xbox 360, although both of the Xbox 360 titles will also be available on Xbox One via the backward compatibility ability of the console. For Xbox One only, gamers will be able to download the adventure title Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments throughout the month of March. Meanwhile, action-RPG Lords of the Fallen will also be up for download, although gamers will need to get the game between March 16 and April 15.
As previously mentioned, there will also be two Xbox 360 games ready for download. Real-time strategy title Supreme Commander 2 will be available between March 1 and March 15, but the other game up for grabs is perhaps the most interesting of the lot. Games With Gold members will be able to get their hands on the original Borderlands from March 16 to March 31, providing the perfect chance to check out the game that started the hugely popular franchise.
The loot-filled action of Borderlands will no doubt prove popular with shooter fans – particularly those who have yet to try out the series. Originally released in 2009, the title’s popularity led to sequels and even the Telltale Games-developed adventure game spin-off Tales of the Borderlands. Given that the next games in the main series are currently available in The Handsome Collection, Games With Gold users could use this free download as a way to suss out whether the Borderlands anthology is a worthwhile addition to a gaming library.
Although Borderlands is perhaps the biggest name on the list, the other games will no doubt find some love with Xbox Live players. Lords of the Fallen has a cult following, with many finding the Dark Souls-esque gameplay enjoyable. Although the game is not without its flaws, as discussed in our review of the title, Lords of the Fallen did well enough for CI Games to pursue creating a sequel for the game, which is due for release in 2017.
The list of Games With Gold for March continues Microsoft’s regular inclusion of quality games. February’s list included the likes of Gears of War 2 and Hand of Fate, whilst Games With Gold kicked off 2016 with Deus Ex: Human Revolution. No doubt future months will also grant players with some quality games to check out.
