Microsoft officially unveils the titles to be available in February 2017's Games with Gold, including Project CARS and Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime.

Now that the free Games with Gold for this January are almost out of the picture with the month close to wrapping up, Microsoft is giving Xbox fans a glimpse of what's to come in February with the program. As it happens, the company is set to continue providing four free games in its Xbox Live Games with Gold promotion – that is, two for Xbox One and two for Xbox 360 – with Project CARS being one of the titles offered on Xbox One to Xbox Live members at no additional cost.

As seen below in the YouTube video from Xbox, the Digital Edition of Slightly Mad Studios’ racing simulator Project CARS will be the second title available for free in the February's Games with Gold promotion, with fans being able to download it at no extra charge from February 16 through March 15. Naturally, Microsoft intends to lead the month off with another strong title for its current generation console by offering the co-op space shooter Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime for free during February 1 through February 15.

Xbox One fans won't be the only ones with Microsoft hardware receiving two solid games for free in February, as the company also has plans to provide two great releases for the Xbox 360 platform as well. In fact, both games being brought to Xbox Live members for free next month are from the American video game publisher, licensor, and once-developer LucasArts.

Starting on February 1 and ending on February 15, Xbox 360 fans will have the option to download LucasArts' fun, colorful, and often hilarious adventure game known as Monkey Island 2 Special Edition: LeChuck’s Revenge. During the second half of the month, Xbox 360 fans who are more inclined to enjoy games with action are in luck, with Microsoft offering Star Wars: The Force Unleashed throughout February 16 through February 28.

Of course, Xbox One fans who wish to play the Games With Gold titles on Xbox 360 will be able to do so thanks to Microsoft's implementation of the platforms' backward compatibility program. Without a doubt, many Xbox fans consider backward compatibility to be one of the major draws to the console, as players can revisit some of their favorite games from the last generation on their console from the contemporary era.

As many Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners will surely attest, Microsoft has done a great job when it comes to providing free supplementary software that fans actually want to play, with last month's offerings including the likes of Killer Instinct's second season, as well as the excellent Rayman: Origins. Taking all of this into consideration, it's anyone's guess as to what March's Games with Gold offerings will provide, but it's safe to say there ought to be at least one title in the bunch that will satiate fans' cravings for a good, free game.

The next period of Xbox Live's Games with Gold begins on February 1, 2017.
