Xbox Game Pass is often heralded as the best deal in gaming, as it constantly introduces new games into its service, and it adds two new day one titles on November 15: Pentiment and Somerville. The former is a smaller project from RPG workhorse Obsidian Entertainment, while the latter is from an indie studio with plenty of experience backing it. While both games may be "non-traditional," they should both be popular games on Xbox Game Pass.

Pentiment reviews dropped yesterday, with the game earning some strong praise ahead of its Game Pass release. Somerville comes in behind Pentiment ever slightly, but both games have their merits.

Pentiment is described as a narrative adventure RPG, with a unique setting of 16th century Bavaria. Stepping into the shoes of Andreas Maler, players investigate a murder across 25 years. What's interesting is the game never reveals the "true" murderer, instead relying on the ambiguity of accusations and potential evidence to support the player's own investigation. It's an interesting approach and comes from the mind of Obsidian's Josh Sawyer (Fallout: New Vegas, Pillars of Eternity).

  • Pentiment (Console, Cloud, PC)
  • Somerville (Console, PC)

Meanwhile, Somerville is developed by indie studio Jumpship, founded by formerly Playdead's Dino Patti. Patti served as executive producer for Limbo and Inside, setting a high bar for Somerville. The game sees players step into the shoes of an average dad who must guide his family through an alien invasion, using the setting, environments, and animations to deliver its story. There is no dialogue or narration in the game.

Beyond Pentiment and Somerville, Xbox Game Pass is currently slated to add Gungrave G.O.R.E. to cloud, console, and PC on November 22, while Battlefield 2042 (via EA Play) will join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate when season 3 launches later this month or early next month. It's looking sparse right now, but of course, the midway point of the month means Microsoft will no doubt reveal wave 2 of November 2022's games sometime soon. For now, fans have two great games to enjoy in the meantime.

Of course, as November 15 marks the middle of the month, Xbox Game Pass is also losing a few titles. The following games are removed today, all from console, cloud, and PC: Art of Rally, Fae Tactics, Next Space Rebel, One Step From Eden, Subnautica, and Supraland.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers get a handful of games every month.
