The future for Xbox’s Game Pass subscription service looks quite bright with the reveal of new features and content at X019 late last year. Popularity of Microsoft’s Xbox and PC subscription service has grown massively in a short amount of time, and the company is confident that it will continue to grow at a similar pace.

Not only does the Game Pass offer great value for its subscribers, but according to Xbox head Phil Spencer “Xbox Game Pass is also a sustainable business venture [for the company].” In a recent talk with Stevivor, Phil Spencer admitted that the company had been a bit vague regarding the number of active Game Pass subscribers, but it’s still a profitable business for the company. “Game Pass for us right now is a good business,” Spencer added. “It’s something that we’re comfortable running the way it is, and it’s more than doubled in size, year over year. It’s on a great trajectory.” Spencer also shot down any rumors regarding using bait and switch tactics, and confirmed that the company would not suddenly increase the subscription price.

“I know some people — I’ve seen it — some people say, ‘Oh, they’re just kind of burning money left and right in order to gain customers so they can trick you into raising the price later.’ Spencer asserted. “There’s no model like that, for us. We feel good in the business that we’re running now. We’re definitely investing in it, but not investing in a way that’s unsustainable.”

It looks like that the company is completely behind the new service, and the addition of Microsoft’s latest first-party title is substantial evidence of that. In addition to all the old first-party and third-party games, Game Pass also gives players access to Microsoft’s newest first-party releases, which means subscribers get to play games like Gears 5 without buying the games at all. It will also be interesting to see how the new year turns out for service since exclusive first-party titles like Bleeding Edge, Grounded, Halo Infinite, and many more are scheduled to release this year. However, by the looks of it, it seems like subscribers will definitely get the worth of their money.
