May 25 seems like it's going to be one of the biggest days for Xbox Game Pass subscribers in the month of May. Microsoft recently pulled the curtain back on all the games Xbox Game Pass subscribers can look forward to in the second half of May 2023, and while there are other days that will be exciting, May 25 has the highest concentration of new additions.

The new Xbox Game Pass additions for the second half of May 2023 are getting started with Eastern Exorcist and Ghostlore joining the lineup on May 18. Both games will be available to console players and those who play Game Pass on PC. Then on May 23, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can look forward to day one game Planet of Lana. Planet of Lana has received one overwhelmingly positive review so far, and it will be interesting to see how the rest of the world reacts to the game once it's out next week.

May 25 is going to be the big day for Xbox Game Pass subscribers to look forward to, however, as that's when Cassette Beasts, Massive Chalice, and Railway Empire 2 are all being added at the same time. Cassette Beasts is a Pokemon-like game that has earned rave reviews from critics, making it one of the highest-rated new releases of 2023 so far. Cassette Beasts is currently available to those who have PC Game Pass, but May 25 will mark its console debut. It seems like Cassette Beasts has potential to vastly grow its audience once it lands on consoles, and so it should definitely be one for Game Pass subscribers to keep an eye on.

New Xbox Game Pass Games for May 2023 List

  • Eastern Exorcist (Consoles/PC) - May 18
  • Ghostlore (Consoles) - May 18
  • Planet of Lana (Consoles/PC) - May 23
  • Cassette Beasts (Consoles) - May 25
  • Massive Chalice (Consoles/Cloud) - May 25
  • Railway Empire 2 (Consoles/Cloud/PC) - May 25
  • Chicory: A Colorful Tale (Consoles/PC) - May 30

Joining Cassette Beasts on May 25 are Massive Chalice and Railway Empire 2. Massive Chalice is admittedly an older game, but it's still one to be excited about. Developed by Double Fine, Massive Chalice is a turn-based tactics game that was well-received by fans of the genre at the time of its release in 2015. The game utilizes permadeath to great effect, so gamers that enjoy that kind of gameplay mechanic in their tactics games will likely have a great deal of fun with Massive Chalice.

Railway Empire 2 is admittedly niche, but it's something that Xbox Game Pass subscribers should keep on their radar as well. The original Railway Empire earned mostly positive reviews and is generally considered one of the best train simulation games on the market. Railway Empire 2 looks like it will retain what made the first game popular with genre fans while bringing plenty new to the table. It could very well turn out to be a surprise success on Xbox Game Pass, but subscribers will have to wait until May 25 to roll around to be sure.
