The launch of the PlayStation 5 came with a big change to Sony's PlayStation Plus subscription service. Instead of subscribers just getting two PS4 games, they were also treated to one PS5 game as well. The very first free PS5 PS Plus game was Bugsnax, a quirky and bizarre indie game from developer Young Horses where players explore a strange island populated by living food. Stranger still, consuming these living food items transforms body parts into that food.

Bugsnax reviews were mostly positive at the time of its release, with the game earning praise for its unique premise and interesting story. The game has been a PlayStation console exclusive since it first launched in 2020, but that will change soon. It's been confirmed by Young Horses that Bugsnax is coming to Nintendo Switch and Xbox later this month, and not only that, but it's coming as a day one Xbox Game Pass game.

Bugsnax will be available on non-PlayStation platforms starting Thursday, April 28. It will be available across Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, with users able to check it out through vanilla and PC Game Pass. Bugsnax will also be playable through the cloud, so Xbox Game Pass subscribers can play it however they'd like.

When Bugsnax launches on April 28 it's bringing with it a substantial new content update that should make it an even more fully-featured experience than the original PlayStation version. The Isle of Bigsnax free content update is said to add around three hours of new story content, with players exploring an island populated by giant Bugsnax. The free content update will also include new customization options, as players will be able to decorate their Snaxburg home and put hats on their Bugsnax.

From PS Plus to Xbox Game Pass, Bugsnax has consistently been featured as a free game, which may be the best for it in the long run. Bugsnax is an incredibly weird game, to the point where some may see Bugsnax trailers and completely write it off. However, it being available through PS Plus and Xbox Game Pass may mean those who wouldn't normally give it a chance will try it out. And based on how Bugsnax has proven to be fairly popular since its original launch in 2020, it seems this strategy has worked to grow the game's audience.

Bugsnax isn't the only new Xbox Game Pass game coming on April 28. Recently, it was confirmed that fellow indie game Unsouled is coming to Xbox Game Pass on that day as well, so subscribers have a lot to look forward to later in April.
