Lightyear Frontier, a farming simulator originally set to release day one on Xbox Game Pass this spring, has been delayed indefinitely. Of course, with Xbox Game Pass constantly adding games to its service, this may be seen by some as a mere drop removed from the bucket. A delay, nevertheless, can be disappointing for fans, but the usual result is a more polished game. That's hopefully what comes from this.

Lightyear Frontier would have launched day one in early access, something that has proven beneficial for new titles. For example, Slime Rancher 2 is available in early access on Xbox Game Pass, and it recently received an update that lets fans explore a brand new biome. Expanding piecemeal with feedback is certainly beneficial, but a certain level of quality and content is still expected before early access hits. Lightyear Frontier developer Frame Break is likely working to hit that benchmark, though it is unable to commit to a new release date as of this writing.

In an announcement, Frame Break confirmed the Lightyear Frontier delay and called it a difficult decision. The developer also states it can't commit to a new launch window, but it will keep sharing development updates with its community as it progresses. Hopefully, the new release date comes sooner rather than later, but as long as it ensures a better early access game, many will likely understand. After all, farming simulators are a beloved but niche and competitive genre, even with the benefit of Xbox Game Pass.

Lightyear Frontier is described as a co-op open-world farming adventure, where players must maintain an exofarm on an alien planet, grow crops previously unknown to mankind, and explore a new world. Not only will players have plenty to plant, grow, and harvest, but they have a scanner satellite to uncover lost knowledge and find this planet's ancient secrets.

Meanwhile, Xbox Game Pass already has an expansive March 2023 line-up. A few are already confirmed, however, including Valheim on March 14, Civilization 6 on March 16, Ni no Kuni 2 on March 21, MLB The Show 23 on March 28, Infinite Guitars on March 30, and Way to the Woods, although still without a date, is still scheduled for March.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers get a handful of games every month.
