2020 has been a memorable year for the video game industry, to say the least, but before 2021 arrives, there's one last big industry event. The Game Awards 2020 is going ahead as scheduled, though without a live audience, otherwise, it will hopefully remain the same. December 10 will deliver a range of industry awards for the best games of 2020, as well as a variety of reveals and announcements. One of The Game Awards' announcements appears to be something from the Xbox team.

Jeff Grubb of GamesBeat recently shared some information during one of the outlet's streams. According to Grubb, Xbox will have an announcement at The Game Awards 2020, but that's the entirety of the news that Grubb was willing to share. His specific words were that he knows Microsoft, "has something coming to The Game Awards." The context of the question posed to Grubb was related to Microsoft's recent acquisition of the eSports bracket website Smash.gg and teases for upcoming Game Pass reveals.

Outside of dismissing that the announcement has any relationship to Smash.gg, Grubb doesn't provide any hint at what the Xbox team may be working on for the show. All that's known is that Xbox will officially be participating in the event and that, if Grubb is to be believed, they'll make some sort of announcement. Xbox fans will have to tune into The Game Awards 2020 to find out more. At the very least, if Grubb has heard about it before the show has aired, it'll likely be a decently-sized reveal.

Xbox has provided some separate information regarding The Game Awards 2020 on its own. For example, in the latest Xbox Game Pass announcement post made on December 1, Xbox teases that it will, "See you at the Game Awards friend!" As such, it wouldn't be surprising for Xbox to reveal the next round of major Game Pass additions coming to the service at The Game Awards. Perhaps they'll include more of Bethesda's game library.

The one game that is confirmed not to be at The Game Awards 2020 is perhaps the one Xbox fans most wanted to see. 343 Industries confirmed in mid-November that Halo Infinite will not be shown during the awards event, though an update will be coming soon, just through a different venue.

There are plenty of other Xbox first-party games that could be announced or shown at The Game Awards, whether it Bethesda's Starfield, Obsidian's Avowed, or even the new Fable game. It doesn't just have to be a single announcement, either. The Initiative's new game could be shown later in the show while Game Pass titles could be shown earlier. All that seems clear is that Xbox fans should look forward to The Game Awards 2020 on December 10, at 4:00 PM PT/7:00 PM ET.
