While the Xbox Series X is just around the corner, it seems Microsoft won’t be stopping there. According to Xbox head Phil Spencer in a recent interview, the video game titan is planning more consoles past the future of the Xbox Series line. While no consoles plans have officially been announced, he says that gaming hardware is going to stick around for a long time.

The Xbox Series X and Series S release on November 10, and they plan to make a big entrance. The Series X console boasts the powerful console being released on the market ever. The Series S is less powerful but also much cheaper, allowing less serious gamers and families to enjoy the next generation as well.

With the release of the xCloud, which lets Xbox players enjoy their games on their smartphone wherever they are, many fans were worried that this was a road to an all-streaming Xbox future. Phil Spencer confirms that this is not the case, as Xbox is already working under the assumption that there will be another console after the Series X line. “In terms of future hardware, absolutely I think we're going to see more console hardware down the road." It seems that the Xbox xCloud service is an addition, not a complete change.

Microsoft recently acquired ZeniMax Studios, gaining all of Bethesda’s highly successful games in the process. This is another example of the company thinking toward the future, allowing Game Pass owners access to The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom, Dishonored, and many more. Microsoft announced that all of the games from studios they acquire will be available on Game Pass right at launch. This improvement to the streaming side of the company, in addition to discussion of future hardware upgrades, promises a strong future for the gaming titan.

The Xbox Series X has plenty of areas it can improve from previous editions. The Xbox achievement system has been long discussed as needing an overhaul. Microsoft has changed the Xbox One Home screen multiple times in its lifetime, leaving some fans frustrated after finally getting used to the previous version. With Mixer shutting down, the streaming section of Xbox is still working through some issues as well. All of these have the potential to be fixed on the Series X and ensure gamers start the next generation happily.

While boasting the most powerful console on the market and acquiring plenty of award-winning games for streaming, the Xbox is not without its faults. A lack of exclusives has frustrated many gamers for years, and it looks like PlayStation is still winning out on this end. Hopefully, Xbox’s plans for future consoles also comes with plans for future exclusives. Either way, it seems that Xbox owners will be able to keep playing for many years to come.

The Xbox Series X and Series S will release November 10.
