Xbox Game Pass has been a great success for Microsoft continuously growing in its subscription rate. On the other hand, though, Xbox Live Gold subscribers haven’t been receiving the most enticing titles. That recently started to change in September with subscribers receiving free titles such as Zone of the Enders HD Collection and Samurai Shodown 2.

That September excitement looks to be continuing into October. Earlier this month, Xbox Live Gold members received Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, and Aero with October 15th being the last day to claim Castlevania, and October 31st being the last day to claim Aero. Today, a new set of free games for Xbox Live Gold members are available to download for a limited time only.

Starting today, Xbox Live Gold members can download Resident Evil Code: Veronica X and Hover, with October 31st being the last day to download Resident Evil and November 15th being the last for Hover. Both titles are also available to download for users that are Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members. Hover is a parkour multiplayer open world where users can perform a variety of different tricks and tackle different challenges to upgrade their gear. Meanwhile, for horror fanatics, Resident Evil Code: Veronica X has become available at the perfect time following Claire after the events that occur in Resident Evil 2.

With the inclusion of Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, now available to download, and with Castlevania: Harmony of Despair having dropped earlier this month, October has been a very strong month for Xbox Live Gold members, and although not including any next-gen titles, Xbox Live Gold is starting to rival PlayStation Plus.

It’s still a bit too early to tell whether or not this streak will continue unto the next coming months, but with September’s free Xbox games, and now October, things are starting to look up for the service. With the recent Xbox Live Gold titles being as old as they are, however, it shows that not many are concerned with next-gen or recent titles being included in the service as long as the games available are popular and exciting.

With Xbox Game Pass currently as large as it is, it makes sense for Xbox Live Gold members to receive older quality games as compensation for newer ones. Just recently, Xbox Game Pass subscribers were able to start playing Back 4 Blood as part of the service, an exciting brand new multiplayer title. It looks as though Microsoft will continue to look for large new AA and AAA titles to include in Xbox Game Pass while Xbox Live Gold will focus on some older classics. It’s not entirely sure if this is the road Microsoft will continue to go down, but even if it is, it’s one that will benefit all users.
