For the past several months, the Xbox Games with Gold program has received positive reviews from fans, thanks to the better selection of games available to subscribers. Just last month, players were treated with a couple of Halloween-themed games such as Resident Evil: Code Veronica X and Castlevania, giving players something fun to play with during the spooky season.

Just several days ago, Microsoft announced November's roster of Xbox Free Games with Gold. However, unlike in September and October, fans are divided on whether the new selection of free games is worth looking into. Microsoft offers Moving Out and Kingdom Two Crowns for the Xbox One, while the Xbox 360 games consist of Rocket Knight and LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.

Moving Out

This November, the first Xbox One game available to Xbox Games with Gold is Moving Out, a cooperative moving simulation game developed by DevM Games and SMG Studio. Moving Out was released in April last year, and put players in the role of movers, tasked to transport marked furniture and appliances from a house to a moving truck under a tight time limit. Players will have to face several challenges during the move, such as rakes, fires, ice, ghosts, and many more. In addition, there are particular objects in Moving Out that require two people to move, while some are highly fragile and must be transported with the utmost care.

While the standard game mode is designed to be extremely difficult, Moving Out also features an "Assist Move" feature, allowing players to add extra time to the time limit, remove obstacles, make objects significantly lighter, or skip challenging levels altogether. In addition, in February 2020, a DLC expansion was released to all versions of Moving Out that added 14 new levels to the story, new characters, and types of items to be moved. Moving Out is available now until the end of the month on Xbox Games with Gold.

Kingdom Two Crowns

Next up in Xbox Games with Gold's November roster is Kingdom Two Crowns, a 2D strategic sidescrolling resource management game featuring a minimalistic design paired with a modern pixel art aesthetic. In the game, players take the role of a king or queen who must toss gold to peasants and convert them to loyal subjects. Players are also responsible for protecting their kingdom from creatures looking to steal gold and usurp the crown. Additionally, Kingdom Two Crowns allows players to explore nearby mysterious forests to unearth cryptic artifacts for the kingdom's benefit.

Last April, a free update called Never Alone was released to all game versions, expanding its co-op mechanics. The update also introduced the Challenge Mode areas in co-op, either in local or online play. Additionally, a new challenge called Trade Routes tasks players to unite two kingdoms separated by the collapse of a Great Bridge. Kingdom Two Crowns will be available on Xbox Games with Gold from November 16 to December 15, 2021.

Rocket Knight

Next up is Rocket Knight, a 2.5D platforming game developed by Climax Studio and published by Konami in 2010. Rocket Knight is a revival of the Sparkster franchise, which began with 1993's Rocket Knight Adventures. In Rocket Knight, Sparkster returns home after fifteen years to find the kingdom of Zephyrus in complete chaos. Rocket Knight is available on Xbox Games with Gold and will remain accessible to subscribers until November 15.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes

The Justice League in Lego Batman 2

Last is LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes for the Xbox 360. Serving as a standalone sequel to LEGO Batman: The Videogame, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes follows Batman, Robin, and Superman trying to stop Joker and Lex Luthor's plans to have the latter become the President. The three heroes join forces with the rest of the Justice League, so LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes features a more expansive cast than its predecessor.

Additionally, LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes features open-world gameplay allowing players to play as Batman and other DC superheroes such as Robin, Batgirl, Green Lantern, Superman, The Flash, and Wonder Woman. Overall, there are 75 playable characters from the DC universe in the game, and an optional 2-player co-op mode is also available. Shortly after its release in 2012, LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes received favorable reviews thanks to its polished gameplay, intuitive story, and good voice acting. LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes will be available on Xbox Games with Gold starting November 16 through November 30.

Initial Impressions on November's Xbox Games with Gold

As previously mentioned, September and October's Xbox Games with Gold received a positive reception from fans. Unfortunately, just days after the announcement of this month's Games with Gold, it appears players are divided on whether November's roster of Xbox Games with Gold is worth checking out. At the time of writing, the Xbox Free Games with Gold announcement video on YouTube has 2.7k likes versus 2.4k dislikes. This stat pales in comparison to October 2021's video that currently has 4.7k likes versus 1.6k dislikes.

Nonetheless, it is evident that fans are split almost in the middle, and most of those who are satisfied with the lineup attribute their approval to the inclusion of LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes. Although Microsoft did try to bolster the value of Xbox Games with Gold in the last couple of months, seeing the company somewhat revert to its old ways may be disappointing to some. The service has seen a great selection of games that offers popular titles such as Resident Evil, Castlevania, and Zone of the Enders for the past few months.

However, it is unsurprising that Microsoft doesn't always hit the mark, given that other services such as PS Plus doesn't always get it right as well. In the end, November's lineup is a clear indication that the company's focus leans toward Xbox Game Pass. It is worth noting that Xbox Game Pass remains a consistent favorite among Xbox players, thanks to the higher-quality games it offers players, including day-one releases. For November, Xbox Game Pass will receive triple-A games like Forza Horizon 5, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - The Definitive Edition, and Skyrim: Anniversary Edition.
