There's still over a week to go before the new year is upon us, but that hasn't stopped Microsoft from announcing the free Games with Gold for January 2021. As usual, the free Games with Gold for January includes four titles for fans to download, with next month's batch featuring two Xbox One games, one Xbox 360, and even one game for the original Xbox. All of the games are playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles thanks to the backward compatibility program.

First up, Xbox One users can look forward to claiming Little Nightmares from January 1 to January 31. A puzzle platformer filled with horrific imagery, Little Nightmares is one of the most visually striking horror games available on the console. A sequel, aptly titled Little Nightmares 2, is set to launch in February, so fans can catch up by playing the original game through the Games with Gold program.

The other Xbox One game is the port of Dead Rising. The original Dead Rising was once one of the Xbox 360's premiere exclusive titles, and earned mostly positive reviews when it first released. The sheer number of zombies it was able to feature on-screen at one time was quite impressive, and it is full of meme-able moments thanks to the corny lines spouted by fan favorite protagonist Frank WestDead Rising will be available to claim from January 16 to February 15.

The Xbox 360 game is The King of Fighters 13 fighting game, which will be available to claim from January 1 until January 15. Then from January 16 to January 31, those interested can claim the original Xbox game Breakdown for their collection. While fans may be familiar with Little NightmaresDead Rising, and The King of Fighters 13, they may be less familiar with Breakdown.

For the uninitiated, Breakdown was developed and published by Namco in 2004. It's a first-person game that has shooter and fighting game elements. One of its main gimmicks is that it goes for realistic environmental interaction, with the player character having to physically pick up ammo, open doors, climb ladders, etc. Breakdown reviews were somewhat mixed at the time of its release, but many critics were impressed with the story.

Overall, it seems as though fans are reacting much more positively to the Xbox Free Games with Gold for January 2021 than they did the December lineup. Speaking of, Xbox Live Gold subscribers still have time to claim some of the free Xbox Games with Gold for December 2020, including The Raven RemasteredBleed 2, and Stacking.
