Xbox Design Lab's highly anticipated relaunch is here, though it has not come without issue. Many Xbox fans made a frustrating discovery after submitting custom controller designs, and Microsoft is now compensating those who were affected.

Microsoft's Xbox Design Lab is an online tool allowing users to customize their own Xbox One controller designs, add an optional engraving, and then have it constructed and shipped. Xbox Design Lab went offline last year and only recently came back to life.

Some users who were excited to order a new, customized controller for the Xbox Series X encountered system errors that resulted in their customized design being lost, and their order being cancelled. Microsoft is apologizing for the errors by distributing $10 worth of gift credit to users' Microsoft accounts. The $10 can be used on anything, including hardware and software through the Microsoft or Xbox stores, but many affected users are using the credit on additional customizations since $10 is enough to add an engraving on Xbox Design Lab.

These system errors have seemingly been resolved. Some users who were given the system error have not received a gift card yet, though it is possible not all of the gift cards have been sent out. With these errors on top of the exclusive Pride Month Xbox Series X controller, it seems Microsoft has been in the news often lately for its controllers.

The lab's relaunch comes at the perfect time, as Xbox Game Pass has gained momentum adding new games frequently and announcing many others will come to Game Pass day one. Now is a good time for interested parties to jump into the world of customized controllers, as the addition of Xbox Series X controllers to the lineup means a potentially improved experience for both console and PC gamers.

Controller prices have shot up in recent years thanks to new features, and the Xbox Series X controller's feature list is no exception. Though the controller is not as much of a departure from the previous generation as the PlayStation 5's DualSense, the Xbox Series X controller makes changes to allow for lower latency, as well as a new shape for the grips and design for the D-pad. The Xbox controller lineup has long been a favorite of both console and PC gamers, and the ability to customize the controller makes it even more appealing. Hopefully Xbox Design Lab issues are now in the past.
