The latest Xbox Deals with Gold sale is now live and thanks to the Xbox Series X/S backward compatibility, players can experience many classic titles from the Xbox 360 and original Xbox era. Microsoft is no stranger when it comes to offering discounts for many different reasons. Team Green has also been known to give away free Xbox store credit to players just for having a console.
This latest sale features a number of classic Xbox and Xbox 360 games with generous discounts ranging from 40% to a massive 80% off the usual RRP. Included in the sale are heavy-hitting titles from Rockstar such as Red Dead Redemption, Bully, GTA 4, and all three Max Payne titles.
The latter games will no doubt be a tantalizing prospect for players as a remake of the first two Max Payne titles are currently in development at Remedy Entertainment. While Rockstar does heavily feature in the Deals with Gold sale, there are also standout hits from Ubisoft and 2K Games including Far Cry 3, Rayman Legends, and the cult shooter The Darkness, all of which can be found in the Xbox store.
With 40+ games from previous generations on sale, players are almost spoiled for choice when it comes to exploring over two decades of Xbox titles. It is worth remembering though, that folks must be signed up for either Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass Ultimate to access these discounts.
Microsoft has historically been more generous when it comes to unlocking older games on newer hardware, although this stance has changed in recent times. After dropping 75 additional games to celebrate two decades of Xbox, the company did announce that there were no further plans to include any more games in the back-catalog. This stance may change, however, as Microsoft could make older Activision Blizzard games such as the original Call of Duty available via backward compatibility, much like how the company added Bethesda’s vault of games to Game Pass once that deal was completed.
The almost 70 billion acquisition still has to be approved by regulators, which is seeing some tough pushback from the PlayStation camp. Concerns were raised surrounding the potential of Call of Duty becoming an Xbox exclusive, this in turn prompted Microsoft to directly address Sony’s concerns including a commitment to keep COD a multi-platform title as keeping one of the biggest video game franchises locked to one platform would cost the company money in the long run.
