Microsoft cloud service usage has spiked by 775% in regions enforcing strict social distancing regulations or shelter-in-place rules, Microsoft has stated. In addition, Microsoft is "optimizing service" for Xbox users, with the hope of driving down bandwidth usage during peak hours.

Microsoft posted the update to its Azure blog, revealing just how many people are shifting to cloud-based solutions during the coronavirus pandemic. Microsoft stated that critical health and safety services have remained its "top priority" during the pandemic, as the company continues to try and prioritize core services to groups such as first responders.

Microsoft stated that it is "actively monitoring performance and usage trends" for Xbox Live, and that the company is taking measures to plan for high-usage times. These measures include working with Microsoft's partners to make sure high-bandwith activities– like game updates– are taking place outside of peak usage times.

Xbox Live has experienced outages recently, likely due to the increase of users during the coronavirus pandemic. Microsoft is a very large company, with Xbox simply being a division of it. Its cloud services assist many businesses, authorities, and more, so such a large usage spike isn't unheard of. Luckily, the services have remained relatively stable.
