Custom controllers are nothing new, whether that means a special color scheme, engravings, or specialized third-party accessories. And while the goal is traditionally to make the most ergonomic and stylish controller possible, that isn't always the case. Xbox Canada has unveiled a new controller design, and while it isn't a sure thing just yet, it's just bizarre enough to warrant further exploration.
Called the "Canadian Tuxedo," the special Series X controller boasts a denim design, complete with two front pockets and belt loops. The design is reminiscent of a pair of overalls, just stretched over an Xbox controller. It is, of course, what can best be described as a bold design, though one that appears to have piqued the interest of a number of internet denizens, including a few brands, over on Twitter.
Replies to Xbox Canada's controller design have been positive, with respondents praising the idea and pitching their own Canada-themed designs, like a Tim Horton's controller or one themed after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. There have also been a number of people daring Xbox Canada to move forward with the design, turning it into a commercially available product. It doesn't seem like Xbox Canada will go that far with it, but if the response to the controller is positive, anything is possible.
Some of the reactions to the controller have highlighted how well it would fit with the show Letterkenny, a Canadian comedy series about a group in a rural part of Canada. While Xbox Canada's controller likely won't make an appearance there, it would be amusing to see it cameo in some way on the television series.
With the Xbox Series X being so new, there aren't many custom designs for the current controller. Xbox recently announced a flashy red version of the overhauled design, and considering how the last iteration went with the Xbox One, there will likely be plenty more to come later on down the line, though probably not with fresh denim designs, like the "Canadian Tuxedo."
If Xbox really wanted to impress fans, it could add options like denim to Xbox Design Lab, a service the company offers that allows users to create their own custom controllers. Unwashable denim might not hold up to the test of time considering how sweaty hands can get while playing games, but the concept may still be able to draw in just enough fans to make it worth it.
