Xbox has been in headlines a lot the past few months. From massive drops of new games to its Game Pass program, like the newly released Outriders, to Xbox's acquisition of Bethesda Studios and its recent ID@Xbox event in March that showcased dozens of upcoming indie games.

A new report from ZDNet reveals that Xbox's next gaming event may be coming some time this month. The news comes on the heels of Microsoft's Build 2021 event, an annual developer conference that will be a digital event this year, being reportedly slated for May 25 to 27. ZDNet also cites sources that reported that the event will be supplemented by smaller "What's Next" virtual events leading up to the conference.

One of these events is an unannounced "What's Next for Gaming" event that is expected to land within the upcoming weeks, which could bring a lot of new Xbox news. There is also an upcoming "Game Stack Live" event taking place from April 20-21 that is a developer-focused online event, but ZDNet's sources confirm that the two events are separate. This likely means that the "What's Next for Gaming" event will be more focused for press and consumers while "Game Stack Live" will focus on more technical aspects for game developers that use the Windows.

Little is known about exactly what the "What's Next for Gaming" event is going to focus on. It is possible that it will follow the template set by Xbox's recent game announcement events, but given that the event is part of Microsoft's schedule of Build events it could also be focused more on new hardware and features for the Xbox line of consoles, new graphics-related technology or new services and hardware.

It could be that the event will be used to make some of Xbox's larger rumored developments, such as the possibility of Microsoft acquiring Discord. The event could also bring new details on the announced growth of Xbox Game Pass to web browsers, bringing the excellent service to Apple phones, Chromebooks, and lower end PCs. The event could also shed light on the rumored changes to Xbox Live Gold that many Xbox gamers have been hoping for after the Xbox Live rebranding that did little to address fans' concerns over the subscription's value. With an announcement of the event expected soon, hopefully Xbox will give some hint about what will be shown, otherwise fans will just have to wait to see what Xbox has in store for them.

Microsoft Build 2021 is scheduled for May 25-27 this year, while the "What's Next for Gaming" event is expected to occur in the next few weeks.
