Xbox Director of Project Management responds to request for an equivalent to Sony's Platinum Trophy within the Xbox Achievement system.

Speaking on the "Iron Lords Podcast," dedicated to gaming and combat sports, Xbox's Jason Ronald was queried as to whether the Xbox achievement system would ever implement something similar to that of Sony's Platinum Trophy. For those who don't know Ronald too well, he's currently the Director of Project Management for Xbox, and has been part of Xbox's strategy to label the Series X and Series S as consoles that are as much about preserving the past of gaming as they are about ensuring its future. Ronald appears very aware of the diversity within gamers and gaming, and this showed yet again in his interview on the "Iron Lords Podcast." Speaking on the possibility of a Platinum Trophy equivalent, Ronald highlighted the fact that everyone likes to play games differently.

For those that don't know, the Platinum Trophy is the ultimate badge of honor in a PlayStation game. It informs a player and anyone who checks their profile that they have completed a game fully, earning all of the previous trophies. Though Xbox has achievements in a similar style to the trophy system, there is so far nothing that acts as that ultimate badge of honor.

In his answer to the question of a Platinum Trophy equivalent, Ronald went on to bring up the types of gamers that exist. "There's some players who just prefer to play multiplayer," he said. "What are we doing to reward them and show progression and things like that? There's other people who like to play tons of different games ... And then there's other people like myself where I'm a completionist and I literally want to complete everything within a game." Furthermore, Ronald acknolwedged that Xbox has thought about creating a Platinum Trophy equivalent, but that there are many factors to consider before something like that can be implemented on the Xbox system.

In truth, the addition of a Platinum Trophy equivalent is an interesting idea, and if Xbox wanted to add it there's not exactly years of work to be done before that idea can become a reality. Yet, though an ultimate badge of honor for Xbox gamers is a nice idea, Xbox may have hesitations to not appear as though it is merely copying their competitors. Game Pass already is helping separate the Xbox system from the market and seems the major focus of Xbox for now. Only time will tell whether we'll see a Platinum Trophy equivalent in the future or not.
