Microsoft has announced a new contest that tasks players to unlock the most achievements possible across select Bethesda games. These contest winners will secure a Bethesda-themed Xbox Wireless Controller, which may be similar to those winnable in the Bethesda Sweepstakes.

This contest comes as Microsoft continues to celebrate its acquisition of ZeniMax Media, which meant that the developer of franchises like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout joined the Xbox brand. While some Bethesda fans are worried about the availability of future games across consoles, Microsoft and Xbox seem intent on celebrating this event.

The contest is Microsoft's "Ultimate Contests" for April and, as such, runs from April 1st, 2021, to April 30th, 2021. To be eligible to enter, players have to over the age of 18, live in The United States, Canada, The United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand, and be subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. The contest itself is rather simple; contestants should use Game Pass to play any game in Bethesda Softworks Collection, which features games from Bethesda Studios, and earn as much achievement score in those games as possible before the contest ends. The full list of eligible games include;

  • The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition
  • Dishonored Definitive Edition
  • Dishonored 2
  • DOOM (1993)
  • DOOM 2 (Classic)
  • DOOM 3
  • DOOM 64
  • DOOM Eternal
  • Fallout 4
  • Fallout 76
  • Fallout: New Vegas
  • Prey
  • RAGE 2
  • The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion
  • The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited
  • The Evil Within
  • Wolfenstein: The Old Blood
  • Wolfenstein: The New Order
  • Wolfenstein: Youngblood

The contest is open to players who have access to an Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series X, or Xbox Series S. This good news for those who have still been unable to get a hold of an Xbox Series S or X, as they can still compete using the previous generation's consoles. The downside of this inclusion is that it means stiff competition for anyone who wants to win one of the seven custom-designed controllers.

It is important to note that the official contest rules that one person can only enter one time and that if the same person signs up with two different accounts, they could be disqualified. Only achievement scores earned during the contest period will be counted, which means Bethesda fans may have to approach this contest carefully. The problem for fans is that they may have already played these games again and earned the available points, limiting the amount they can earn during this contest period. To get around this, it might be best that those fans use a new account as their entry and earn the achievements once more on that new account.

Microsoft is making the most out of the buzz created by its purchase of ZeniMax, and Bethesda games will likely be heavily featured in Xbox's E3 plans for 2021. What this acquisition means for the wider games industry is still to be determined, but for now, Microsoft seems to have every reason to celebrate its new studio.
