Microsoft did okay with its first console, the Xbox. Mostly, it was able to stay afloat thanks to the cultural phenomenon generated by Halo, which revolutionized console first-person shooters. The Xbox brand really became a beast with the next generation where they released the Xbox 360.

The console was a massive success, especially in North America, and is home to some of the most celebrated games and franchises. People have fond memories of their time with the console, but sadly some of those memories can never be recreated. Many popular games are either delisted or their servers are completely shut down, leaving them either impossible to play or buy. A couple of these at least have a rare physical copy available to purchase.

7 Final Fantasy 11

Final Fantasy 11

Final Fantasy had already been a legendary franchise before its first foray into the MMORPG space. Final Fantasy 11 truly innovated on the genre to become one of the most celebrated MMO of its day. It initially came out on PS2 and Windows before making its way to the Xbox 360.

While the game is still playable on PC, the Xbox servers shut down in 2017 alongside the PS2 servers. It is worrisome to think all those hours spent inside Final Fantasy 11 will just vanish one day. Anybody who wants to jump into it today should be aware that it is definitely an MMO of its day. For a more streamlined experience, Final Fantasy 14 is the better choice.

6 Grand Theft Auto Online (As Of December 16th, 2021)

Grand Theft Auto 6 is nowhere in sight. Why would it be when Rockstar and publisher Take-Two are still raking in the cash with Grand Theft Auto Online? The multiplayer component was not always the beloved experience it is today, however. It launched on Xbox 360 and PS3 two weeks after Grand Theft Auto 5 in an arguably broken state.

Playing with others was difficult for months and there was not a lot of content to engage with. GTA Online improved immensely through the years and with the next-generation upgrade. Now, eight years later, the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the multiplayer component are going offline in December 2021.

5 Defiance

Defiance was a novel idea. The MMO was directly tied to the sci-fi original series of the same name. Events in the game would directly mirror what was going on in the series.

Both the series and the game launched in 2013, though the former ended in 2015. The game marched on until this year when servers were finally closed down in April. Reviews for the game were mixed, but one at least has to applaud the idea of brand synergy between a tv show and a video game.

4 X-Men: Destiny

X-men destiny video game

This action RPG was developed by Silicon Knights, who also made Too Human for the same generation. Both games came under fire due to a lawsuit around the game engine used to build them. The end of the lawsuit resulted in every unsold copy of both games being taken off shelves and destroyed.

Anybody who bought one can still play it if they have the disc, but there is no legal way to get one's hands on a new copy. Too Human recently showed up again on the Xbox Live Marketplace, so maybe X-Men: Destiny can re-appear in the near future. As for the developer, it has declared bankruptcy in 2014. At least fans will always remember its classics like Eternal Darkness and Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain.

3 Jurassic Park

jurassic park telltale

Jurassic Park has been in the spotlight in the last decade thanks to the new film series. Before this renaissance, Telltale made a game in the franchise in the same form as the rest of the developer's titles.

It was not the most beloved title in the developer's catalog. All the same, it is unfortunate it is so hard to find these days thanks to rights lapsing and the rarity of physical copies. The developer went under in 2018 though the name technically lives on. As of now, Jurassic Park and many other games from the developer are not officially on sale anywhere.

2 Rock Band Blitz

Music licensing is almost a ticking time bomb when it comes to digital purchases. Considering the Rock Band games are built around licensed music, it only makes sense for the games to be delisted eventually.

Rock Band Blitz was special because players could play an Amplitude-styled game using the DLC they purchased for the mainline series. It does not have the same simulation feeling as the plastic instruments from Rock Band, but at least it gave fans a new way to experience their DLC library. Unfortunately, the game has been delisted since 2017.

1 Simpsons Arcade Game

The Simpsons arcade game is a much-beloved arcade classic. It was a big deal, then, when it came to consoles in 2012. The combat is simple, but it does a great job of bringing the Simpsons aesthetic to the video game space.

Unfortunately, it was delisted and it is not possible to buy it on the Xbox 360. A new version of the arcade cabinet was released in 2021, but it is doubtful many are willing to fork over the cash for a whole arcade cabinet just to play one game.
