As if it needed to be said, the Xbox 360 provided fans with plenty of fond memories by hosting some of the top games of the last generation, with Halo 3, the original Gears of War trilogy, and numerous others having graced the platform. Of course, many Microsoft acolytes have already migrated onto current-gen hardware with the Xbox One, but that doesn't mean the technology firm has forgotten about its previous console. In fact, the company recently provided the older system with its first update in over two years.

Those who decided to boot up their Xbox 360 over the course of last week likely noticed that Microsoft rolled out OS version 2.0.17526.0 on May 22, 2018 for the console, but the update didn't offer up any new features or rectify any major exploit that needed to be patched. Interestingly enough, the release notes for the software update stated that it simply contained minor bug fixes and various improvements to the system.

For those unaware, the Xbox support website declared that the previous system update for the Xbox 360 was released on March 29, 2016, officially making this most recent patch for the console the first it's received in over two years. The March 2016 update was sent out almost a month before Microsoft announced its decision to end production of the Xbox 360, with the update from a couple of years ago having included minor bug fixes and improvements.

With the Xbox 360 having gotten a fresh update just recently, it shows that despite Microsoft's dedication to the Xbox One and Xbox One X, the company still wants to ensure fans of its older platform are able to enjoy a stable gaming experience without having to worry about potential operating system issues. Perhaps this patch will prompt fans to revisit the platform and enjoy some of their favorite titles on the Xbox 360 for old times' sake instead of relying on the Xbox One's Backward Compatible program.
