Fans of the X-Men have long been on the edge of their seats, speculating and wondering what Disney plans to do with the property now that they've recovered it from Fox. Obviously, most are expecting the characters to be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the question of how that will happen is still hotly debated, as the company has been very quiet about its precise plans for dealing with the Fox continuity, or whether they will acknowledge it at all.

One of the bigger nods to the franchise came with WandaVision, when Evan Peters, who played Quicksilver in the Fox movies, showed up to play an imposter Quicksilver in Wanda's idyllic fantasy life. This, of course, led to many fans expecting some kind of confirmation of a crossover between the two universes, only to be left without a resolution when the character was revealed to be just another mind-controlled civilian, rather than the actual Fox version of Quicksilver.

Still, those who loved the Fox movies are hoping for some kind of acknowledgment, crossover, or perhaps even integration with the MCU as it exists today. No doubt Disney and Marvel have considered the possibility as they discuss the best way to integrate the characters, but it remains unclear when the X-Men will find their way to the current continuity, and what they'll look like when they do.

Fans of the Fox continuity aren't being left out to dry though, as it has been announced that the Fox X-Men films will be getting official 4K re-releases for those who want to re-live the pre-MCU superhero saga. That said, fans won't be able to buy every film in the lineup. As of right now, only 4 of the X-Men films are up for pre-order, namely: X-Men, X-Men 2, X-Men: The Last Stand, and X-Men: First Class.

The films, which are purchasable only from Zavvi, also come with Steelbook cases, a nice addition to any collector's shelf. As for special features, each one will include deleted scenes, commentary, easter eggs, and more to make the copy unique from other standard versions. Those who pre-order can expect their copies to start shipping out over the next few months as each individual Steelbook package gets ready to release.

While the Fox films have had their share of ups and downs, these re-releases will be a nice way to relive the X-Men films before the mutants find their way into the MCU one way or another. If the timelines do merge, then it'll be a good refresher on the continuity, and if not, fans will still get to enjoy the films on their own merits in the highest possible quality.

The X-Men films are now available on Disney Plus.
