On January 26, WWE hosted its annual Royal Rumble pay-per-view event. 30 men and 30 women competed in the titular Royal Rumble matches, with some busting out special gear for the big show. One such performer that wore special gear for the Royal Rumble was Raw wrestler Zelina Vega, who came to the ring in attire that appears to have been inspired by Mortal Kombat character Sindel.

Zelina Vega's Sindel attire for the Royal Rumble looked pretty impressive, though it didn't translate to a victory for her. The women's Royal Rumble match was ultimately won by Charlotte Flair, and Zelina Vega was actually eliminated fairly soon after entering the match. Even though she didn't last long in the Royal Rumble match, Zelina Vega still managed to make headlines because of her impressive Sindel outfit.

Zelina Vega wasn't the only superstar that entered the Royal Rumble with special gear. Other superstars entered the big match wearing comic book-inspired attire, including Tegan Nox, who wrestled in gear inspired by Iron Man. During the men's Royal Rumble match later in the night, Rey Mysterio donned Batman attire, and MVP returned to the WWE in a suit styled after Black Panther.

Wrestlers wearing video game or comic book inspired attire for big shows isn't anything new. In fact, it happens pretty regularly in WWE's rival promotion, All Elite Wrestling. AEW star Kenny Omega especially incorporates video games into his gear and entrances, though he takes it a step further by naming his moves after video games as well. As a matter of fact, Omega's finishing move is called the One Winged Angel, a reference to Final Fantasy 7 villain Sephiroth.

As today's wrestlers really grew up with video games, it's likely that this trend will only continue and become even more common. However, it's likely that this special gear will be saved for the bigger shows, like a Royal Rumble or a WrestleMania.

Speaking of WrestleMania, this year's event will be taking place in Tampa, Florida, and has a pirate theme. Considering this, maybe superstars will take inspiration from pirate-themed video games for their special attire this year. Fans will just have to tune in to WrestleMania 36 on April 5 to find out.
