Florida Division of Emergency Management Director Jared Moskowitz put forth a memorandum on April 9, 2020 that gave an "essential services" distinction to professional sports employees and those who work in related national media companies. One group that has taken advantage of this is World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), which resumed live televised shows Monday after previously canceling live events like Wrestlemania 36 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

WWE has been relying on previously taped matches for a few weeks now according to CNN. The media company has also recently made "thousands of hours" of content on the WWE Network free to view for those who are stuck at home as a result of worldwide closures.

A Florida official told CNN that professional sports and media productions like WWE are "critical to Florida's economy," so long as the location is closed to the general public. Also added into this "essential" bracket were employees at services and programs addressing "urgent counseling" like mental health; as well as employees at theme park, entertainment complexes, zoos, and aquariums necessary for preserving property, health, and maintaining regulatory compliance.
