Rated-R Superstar Edge's return to Monday Night Raw didn't go as planned. The WWE Hall of Famer wasn't the only one who was surprised by the turn his segment took, as viewers were shocked by some of his words.

Prior to his short absence from television, Edge was last seen on WWE programming for the Crown Jewel event on October 21, 2021, where he competed in a Hell in a Cell match against Seth Rollins. Edge went on to win that match and had not been seen on television prior to last night's broadcast of Monday Night Raw.

Edge returned to the ring to discuss his next steps, naming a few stars he'd like to have a match with. Before any of those people could be heard from, Edge was interrupted by The Miz, who was also making his return to Raw. The Miz and Edge exchanged a few words about one another and their respective absences before Edge would make a reference to a segment done by WWE's rival AEW. Edge told The Miz that he has people on other shows mentioning his name to get a reaction from the crowd. Five days prior to Raw, MJF and CM Punk exchanged words in a similar manner, referencing The Miz and various other WWE stars.

CM Punk and MJF's promo lasted for 20 minutes on AEW Dynamite and has already been viewed over 2.3 million times on YouTube. During the promo, CM Punk called MJF a "less famous Miz," which seemed to prompt a response from WWE, who seemed to try to recreate the moment shared between MJF and CM Punk. To add to the reference made by Edge on the air, WWE's social media account tweeted, "YOU have people saying your name just to get a cheap reaction. You live rent-free in a lot of heads," to quote Edge earlier in the show. They then added, "And @mikethemiz knows it." This is a direct reference to MJF's own mantra, "I'm better than you and you know it."

Edge and The Miz's segment was not the only reference made to AEW or recent events in WWE, as Becky Lynch and Liv Morgan also took a few jabs. Morgan told Lynch that Lynch's big contract was the reason her friends were no longer employed by the company. Morgan was previously involved with a group known as the Riott Squad with Sarah Logan and Ruby Riott before the group was broken up. Logan and Riott were later cut by WWE, but Riott (now under the name of Ruby Soho) has found a new home in AEW.

It's highly unlikely that the on-air or social media references between these two companies will end anytime soon, making for interesting television. Now that The Miz has returned from his stint on Dancing with the Stars and his former partner and rival John Morrison has been released, he is open to exploring feuds with others. It seems the first on his list is the Rated-R Superstar, and there's no telling where this feud may lead either man.
