WWE 2K22 was one of the best games in the franchise, introducing a great blend of simulation and arcade elements, new and old game modes, and an improved roster. One of the best additions was the reintroduction of the fan-favorite MyGM mode, which allows fans to control a show with the freedom to pick their roster and set matches while controlling a budget. While this addition is something WWE 2K fans have been asking for since the start, the game mode has many issues that should be fixed to give players a better experience.

As it stands, MyGM Mode in WWE 2K22 has a lot of promise, and with the right improvements it could become a main mode for fans to enjoy. WWE 2K22 is the first game to bring back MyGM Mode since the Smackdown vs. RAW era nearly 15 years ago. However, the poor variety of match types, lack of interesting events, and small starting budget have all led to the game mode feeling incomplete.

Bigger Starting Budget

The budget system in MyGM is important, as it not only dictates what superstars will be on the show, but also the type of matches that can be held - especially during Pay-Per-View (PPV) events like WrestleMania. With a small starting budget, it becomes nearly impossible for fans to build up good ratings while retaining enough funds for bigger and better matches during later PPV events. Giving fans more money to start will not only allow them to get a better, more diverse roster, but it would also give them more flexibility as the weeks roll by.

Giving players more of a starting budget would not only increase flexibility at the start of the game mode, but also give them the chance to lay out a long-term plan. Further, it can be used to hire superstars midway through the year in case there are injuries, or if certain superstars are not performing well. This would also help players with other improvements, such as adding in more matches per-show and a larger variety of crazy WWE match types.

More Matches and Match Types

As it stands, MyGM mode only allows players to include three matches per show, which severely limits the number of superstars who will compete. This is an even bigger issue since there are only single and tag-team match options, which means that players cannot create six-man matches for more superstars to play. This not only affects the overall rating of the show, but also prevents faster development of superstars.

Adding in more match types is a necessity for WWE 2K23, as it will improve the versatility of events and create larger rivalries to capitalize upon. The limit of three match types makes this game mode feel unrealistic, and takes away from the inherent fun of managing a large roster. While WWE 2K22 did introduce more arcade elements for its overall gameplay, modes like MyGM need to maintain a higher level of simulation elements, since it is meant to emulate what a real GM does in the WWE.

There are a few other areas where MyGM Mode could be improved, such as better mechanics with rival shows, more championships, and an improved rivalry/ally system that can help create new tag teams. However, changes to the budget and match types are perhaps the most important elements to consider. WWE 2K22 did a great job at re-introducing the mode for fans, and the current state of MyGM is promising. Improving this mode for WWE 2K23 could make it the main offline mode players enjoy, and could give fans the enjoyment they experienced when playing the GM Mode in the Smackdown vs. RAW franchise.

WWE 2K22 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
