WWE 2K22 was first revealed at WrestleMania 37, with 2K Sports showing off some brief gameplay between Cesaro and Rey Mysterio. SummerSlam is WWE's second-biggest event each year, and so 2K Sports is back with another look at the game, along with some news about its release date. Anyone hoping to play WWE 2K22 this year may be disappointed, as the game's release date has been delayed to 2022.

It's been confirmed that the WWE 2K22 release date month is now March 2022. This would put the WWE 2K22 release window right around WrestleMania 38, which makes sense when one considers that interest in WWE is typically highest around WrestleMania season. However, it's quite the departure from the norm, as WWE 2K video games traditionally release in October each year. It also means that there will have been no new WWE 2K games released in 2020 or 2021.

In the meantime, the trailer shows off a variety of superstars that are now confirmed for the WWE 2K22 roster. This includes Bayley, Bobby Lashley, Drew McIntyre, Finn Balor, Kane, Kofi Kingston, Rhea Ripley, Ricochet, Roman Reigns, Sheamus, Shelton Benjamin, Shinsuke Nakamura, and The Miz. Once again, fans only get brief glimpses at gameplay, but what's shown in the new WWE 2K22 trailer is still impressive from a visual standpoint.

Those waiting for more substantial information on WWE 2K22 should note that they shouldn't expect anymore big reveals this year. 2K Sports has confirmed to Game Rant that WWE 2K22 will have a full unveiling at some point in January of 2022. This will include a look at WWE 2K22's features, modes, the cover athlete, and more. Rumors have been swirling about the possible WWE 2K22 cover athletes, though it seems nothing is set in stone just yet.

This new WWE 2K22 trailer comes mere days after 2K Sports revealed new screenshots of Edge, with the Rated-R Superstar rumored to be one of the possibilities for the new game's cover athlete. Other rumors point to the cover athlete being Roman Reigns, Drew McIntyre, or Sasha Banks. Whatever the case may be, it seems fans of WWE 2K will have to wait until January 2022 to learn who the next cover athlete is.

WWE 2K22 will launch in March of 2022.
