Following poor critical reception from WWE 2K20 and the cancellation of the 2021 entry, 2K Games' WWE franchise is finally set to return with the release of WWE 2K22, just over a month away. 2K has slowly started to reveal the roster of the upcoming wrestling game and has revealed several other details about the game in recent weeks, confirming playable General Managers alongside significant changes to the game's GM mode. Now, the sports game juggernaut has shown off another wrestler set to join the game's roster with the most recent reveal being a legendary piece of WWE history.

WWE 2K22's release next month will mark the first new wrestling title from 2K Games since the critical failure of October 2019's WWE 2K20. The 2020 edition of the annual franchise was met with significant backlash from both fans and critics for multiple technical issues within the game, ranging from poor character models to numerous glitches that would often completely break the game's functionality. Developers 2K Games and Visual Concepts previously stated that the newest entry will run on a completely re-built engine and the newest teaser screenshot shows off the Macho Man himself, Randy Savage.

The newest screenshot for WWE 2K22 ahead of its March release shows off the Macho Man in a taunting pose likely used for an entrance. The outfit featuring mixes of lime green and royal blue, the shimmering blue cape, and his iconic shorts perfectly suit the wrestler known for his distinctive personality and husky voice. Savage can also be seen sporting his signature sunglasses and the caption for the tweet even quotes his iconic "Ohhhh yeah" catchphrase.

The Macho Man is the most recent of several WWE legends to be featured in promotional material for WWE 2K22, joining another recently retired legend in The Undertaker. 2K Games has confirmed legendary WWE staple Rey Mysterio as the cover athlete for the upcoming game as well as revealing several other iconic wrestlers from the organization's history including Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, and several others. WWE 2K22 will also feature several modern stars who are currently inactive, the most notable being The Rock and John Cena.

WWE 2K22 will have a tough road ahead of it as the game returns following the absence of a new WWE game in 2021. The newest game in the annual wrestling franchise will not only have to make up for the failings of WWE 2K20, but provide a robust experience for fans scorned by the technical difficulties that plagued 2K20 on release. While the rebuilt engine and improvements to several game modes will look to stabilize the ailing WWE franchise, fans will have to wait and see if 2K22 is a proper return to form for the franchise.

WWE 2K22 is scheduled to release on March 11 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
