WWE 2K22 was spotlighted in a new trailer this past Saturday during the company's SummerSlam event. Fans have seen little of WWE 2K22 since it was first announced, except for a short trailer and some behind-the-scenes videos. During SummerSlam, a new trailer premiered, which gives fans a better idea of who will be playable when the game is finally released. While the new SummerSlam trailer was short, it also highlighted some entrances and some of the moves players will be able to pull off while playing as different superstars.

As part of the SummerSlam 2021 trailer, a delay for WWE 2K22 was also confirmed. While originally the game was targeting a release date later in 2021, it has unfortunately been delayed until March 2022. This is sure to disappoint those who've been looking forward to the game, but it also gives the developer some more time to work on it. Releasing WWE 2K22 in March could make more sense than the traditional release period, as this will be right before WrestleMania when interest in WWE usually peaks. Thanks to the new trailer, gamers have a better idea of who will be playable when the game launches in March 2022.

WWE 2K22's Newly Confirmed Playable Superstars

wwe 2k22 release date history

Some WWE superstars have already been confirmed for WWE 2K22 before the release of the SummerSlam trailer. Cesaro and Rey Mysterio were confirmed for WWE 2K22 with its first trailer as they were featured heavily in it. Recently, Edge was confirmed with new screenshots of the wrestling game showing off some of his entrance. With the new SummerSlam 2021 trailer for WWE 2K22, several more wrestlers have been confirmed to be playable. The full list of newly confirmed superstars is as follows:

  • Sheamus
  • Ricochet
  • Bayley
  • Carmella
  • Finn Balor
  • Roman Reigns
  • The Miz
  • Rhea Ripley
  • Shinsuke Nakamura
  • Kane
  • Shelton Benjamin
  • Goldberg
  • Dolph Ziggler
  • Bobby Lashley
  • Kofi Kingston
  • Drew McIntyre

The list of newly confirmed superstars doesn't contain any major surprises, even Kane, while he's not a regular fixture on WWE television anymore, was bound to be included in the game. The other confirmed superstars in the trailer represent some of WWE's top stars, so it was expected that they'd make the final cut for the game. It's unknown if WWE legends like The Undertaker will be playable, but it stands to reason that they will be considering that most WWE 2K games tend to have a large offering of legendary stars to play as. Fans shouldn't expect any further news for the remainder of 2021, though a big reveal of WWE 2K22 has been touted for January 2022.

Fans are hoping that WWE 2K22 can live up to expectations, especially after WWE 2K20. The new game is likely going to face stiff competition from the debut console game from AEW, too. It'll be a few more months until fans will be able to get a better idea of how the game will turn out, but its impressive graphics have already been grabbing fans' attention. WWE 2K22 so far has a list of expected names on its roster, and hopefully, in a few months, gamers will see a more fleshed-out list of confirmed playable characters.

WWE 2K22 will launch in March 2022.
