WWE 2K20 Gets New Developer, Yuke's No Longer at the Helm

wwe 2k20 has a new developer

WWE 2K20 was announced recently, and by all accounts, it looks largely like what fans may have expected - similar gameplay to past entries, but with a visual upgrade and some new features. Many assumed that WWE 2K20 was yet again being developed by longtime series studio Yuke's, but it's since been revealed that NBA 2K series developer Visual Concepts is working on the new game instead.

While Visual Concepts will be the lead developer on WWE 2K20, Yuke's will still be providing support in regards to the game engine. Yuke's itself is developing a different wrestling game, but the details on that project are still scarce at the time of this writing.

It remains to be seen what this change means for WWE 2K20. Yuke's has been working on WWE video games since the 90s, and so having another developer at the helm is quite the change. It also remains to be seen how fans will react to Visual Concepts taking over development. It's true that Visual Concepts has delivered some critically-acclaimed games, but it has also been criticized for its aggressive use of microtransactions in the NBA 2K series that some feel hurt the overall product.

As for what's next for Yuke's, we mentioned previously how the studio is working on a new wrestling video game of some kind, but details of that have yet to be shared. It's possible that the game will be similar to WWE SmackDown! Here Comes the Pain, as Game Design Supervisor Bryan Williams hinted as much on Twitter, but concrete details are still unavailable at the time of this writing.

In the meantime, WWE 2K20 looks as though it will please fans of the series. The game is looking to provide a number of new features, including women's MyCareer mode, as well as an intriguing mode called WWE 2K20 Originals that will include some horror-themed characters and settings.

WWE 2K20 will also see the return of fan favorite game modes, like 2K Showcase. This year's 2K Showcase will focus on the Four Horsewomen of the WWE - Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair, and Bayley - chronicling their rise from NXT to the main roster.

WWE 2K20 launches on October 22 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
