WWE 2K18 is, by all accounts, one of the most promising iterations of the series yet. The game has received a major graphical overhaul over its predecessors, thanks largely to the decision to finally relinquish support of PS3 and Xbox 360, and WWE 2K18 will once again refine its Universe and Campaign modes to hopefully deliver its most realistic interpretation of professional wrestling yet.

WWE 2K18 will also be delivering a few series firsts, as well. In an age where staggered platform launches are still an annoyance to PC gamers, WWE 2K18 will officially launch for consoles and PC simultaneously on October 17. It's the first time the series will be accomplishing that feat, and is surprising given that the series is supporting the Nintendo Switch for the first time as well - although the Switch version's release date is still unconfirmed, to be fair.

On launch day, both the standard and deluxe editions of WWE 2K18 will launch on Steam and at traditional console retailers as well. PC players will still be missing out on something, however - they won't get the Early Access Deluxe Edition offering, although they'll still receive the two versions of Kurt Angle that come with preordering the game.

While WWE 2K18 cover superstar Seth Rollins is more into the idea of burning it all down, the actual game itself seems to be building an excellent foundation for the series' foray into current-gen consoles and PC only. The recent WWE 2K18 gameplay trailer shows off a game that has clearly learned from past mistakes, and the marketing campaign behind the title indicates that both developer and WWE are confident in the game's quality.

Of course, the WWE 2K series has been known to falter at the last step, and it wouldn't be a surprise if the same criticisms regarding the game's Universal mode emerge once players have had a chance to engage with it for a prolonged period of time. Still, as far as things stand right now, WWE 2K18 is doing everything right, including a simultaneous release date policy that will hopefully become an industry standard sooner rather than later.

WWE 2K18 arrives for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 17, 2017. A Nintendo Switch release is set for this Fall.
