2K Sports is promising that WWE 2K16 will have the largest roster in series history, and so far they have been doing a good job of living up to those claims. With weekly roster updates leading up to the game’s release, a slew of new WWE superstars are being confirmed every Monday night.
This has included wrestlers from all different eras and generations throughout wrestling history, including stars from now, the ’90s, and even a healthy amount of WCW alumni. However, this year the roster is getting a little more diverse and creative, and may not be limited to just professional wrestlers.
This was made readily apparent when The Terminator was announced as a pre-order bonus for the game. The Terminator’s inclusion has blown the doors wide open for other fictional characters and celebrities to make their way into WWE 2K16, and these 10 potential guest characters are the ones that we’d like to see the most:
In case anyone missed the memo, sometimes wrestling can be incredibly silly, and it doesn’t get much goofier than WCW’s later years. As a testament to this, take, for instance, the fact that Chucky from the slasher horror movie series Child’s Play once showed up to cut a promo against Rick Steiner on Monday Nitro.
While we don’t want Chucky showing up on TV again any time soon, he would make a rather hilarious addition to the WWE 2K16 roster. If Rick Steiner is added to the game, it would be even better! Finally, their eternal beef could be squashed in the middle of the squared circle.
Love him or hate him, Donald Trump is (currently) a leading candidate for the President of the United States. But before his political aspirations, he had many dealings in WWE, including a feud with Vince McMahon that culminated in a “Battle of the Billionaires” at WrestleMania 23.
Considering his past connection to pro wrestling and his current status as one of the richest celebrities in the US, Trump would be a great guest character for the roster. We’re not exactly sure what his move set would be, but maybe he could use his hair as a weapon, Bayonetta style? In the meantime, let’s hope that a video game Donald Trump will be able to sell the Stone Cold Stunner better than his real life counterpart.
Best known for his role as Wolverine in the X-Men films, Hugh Jackman is definitely in shape enough to be a pro wrestler if he really wanted to, and already has a past in the business to justify his inclusion as a guest character.
He’s appeared on WWE programming on more than one occasion, even going as far as to punch Dolph Ziggler in the face during one such appearance. Jackman’s athleticism and star power are proven, and if he had access to a set of adamantium claws in WWE 2K16, that would be even better.
Jon Stewart’s saga in the WWE is quite storied. It began when he called out Seth Rollins during an episode of The Daily Show, which segued into an appearance by Stewart on Monday Night Raw. He then became the host of SummerSlam in his first post-Daily Show gig, and in doing so, ending up stopping John Cena from tying Ric Flair’s record of 16 world championship reigns.
Stewart suffered an Attitude Adjustment courtesy of Cena on the Raw after SummerSlam for his efforts, and while he lacks the athletic prowess in real life to properly exact his revenge, being able to beat up John Cena as Jon Stewart in a video game would a decent alternative.
“The Baddest Man on the Planet,” Mike Tyson may be better known for his storied boxing career, but he’s also been involved in professional wrestling. In fact, Tyson was the special guest enforcer for the match between Shawn Michaels and WWE 2K16 cover athlete “Stone Cold” Steve Austin way back at WrestleMania XIV. Tyson’s even appeared in previous WWE games as a result of his past with the company, specifically as a pre-order bonus for WWE ’13.
Having Tyson return for WWE 2K16 would be very fitting when one considers that the game plans on chronicling the career of Steve Austin, and Tyson played a significant role in the evolution of Austin’s character. We’d honestly be surprised if he doesn’t appear in the game one way or another, and out of all the suggested guest characters on this list, Tyson is the one with the best chance of actually making it into the game.
When Hafthor Julius “Thor” Bjornsson showed up at an NXT event to watch the show as the special guest of Stephanie McMahon and Triple H, it had fans buzzing about the possibility of the giant man stepping into a WWE ring once his tenure on Game of Thrones came to an end.
Regardless of whether or not Bjornsson ever makes it into the actual WWE, it would get Game of Thrones fans excited if The Mountain made it as a guest wrestler in WWE 2K16. His gargantuan, intimidating size would make him a perfect fit, and his finisher could involve crushing the heads of his opponents with his bare hands.
Oddly enough, Jim Henson’s Muppets are actually canon in the universe of WWE. See, WWE likes to take their crossover promotions a bit far, even making Beaker a blood relative of the professional wrestler Sheamus in-storyline.
What The Muppets lack in physicality, they more than make up for with their humor, and just imagine seeing Kermit the Frog grapple with the likes of the Big Show. Like Chucky, The Muppets would be included as joke characters, but maybe if the character creation system is robust enough in 2K16, we’ll see community created Muppet characters available for download.
If you thought Chucky showing up in WCW was silly, wait until you hear about this! At one point in WCW, one of their main wrestlers, Sting, had to rely on the aid of RoboCop – yes, RoboCop – to save him from the stable known as the Four Horsemen during a pay-per-view event.
Just like with Chucky, we never want to see RoboCop come close to a pro wrestling ring again, but he would be welcome as a guest character in WWE 2K16 for more than one reason. First of all, his move set could be incredibly unique, considering he’s a robot. And second of all, who wouldn’t want to see RoboCop battle The Terminator? The commercials practically write themselves.
Ronda Rousey may be the most well-known female athlete in the world today, and for good reason. She has absolutely dominated the Octagon in UFC, and has also made herself very easy to relate to, thanks to her openness about her hobbies, which includes video games.
Along with Pokemon and World of Warcraft, Rousey is also an avid fan of professional wrestling, and was even involved in a segment at WrestleMania 31 a few months back. Rousey’s physical prowess, her mainstream stardom, and her love of video games and pro wrestling make her an easy pick for a WWE 2K16 guest character.
Stephen Amell recently took some time out of his busy schedule filming the next season of Arrow to fulfill a childhood dream: wrestle a match in the WWE. His dream was realized when he teamed with Neville to defeat the likes of King Barrett and Stardust at the most recent SummerSlam event, and it’d be a shame if his WWE presence ended there.
While his busy TV schedule makes it nearly impossible for Amell to be involved with pro wrestling on a consistent basis, it would be nice to see the actor’s wrestling career live on in some capacity, even if it’s just in WWE 2K16 as a guest character. The Green Arrow already has the outfit and the demeanor of a superstar; he just needs some worthy opponents.
While these 10 guest characters immediately sprang to mind when thinking about who we’d like to see in WWE 2K16, wrestling history is full of other potential candidates. Are there any other non-wrestlers you’d like to see in WWE 2K16?
WWE 2K16 will be available starting October 27th for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
