Due to the failure of WWE 2K20, the game’s developers have announced a spin-off title in WWE 2K Battlegrounds. However, that game isn’t part of the main series, which will get a new release sometime in the future. With quite a long wait ahead before this title is released, it makes sense to consider the improvements and additions that will make the next main entry worthy of purchase.

Luckily for the developers, there’s quite a bit of room to implement these things, and the next WWE video game can benefit greatly from the extra time. That said, here are the 10 improvements the series should look into, especially in order to make fans forget how laughably bad the previous entry was.

10 General Manager Mode

It’s high time this feature makes a return, especially given how wrestling fans consider themselves so in touch with the business these days. The General Manager mode places players in the shoes of the person running the brands.

This is more relevant now since there are three brands in question, with Survivor Series having it as its main theme. Under the GM mode, players can have the PPV as their last stop, where the whole year’s brand rivalry comes to a head.

9 A Revamped 24/7 Mode

It actually wasn’t a bad idea to include the “24/7 mode” in the otherwise much maligned Smackdown vs. Raw 2008. Here, players were meant to live life as a WWE Superstar, which sounds great on paper. The next game should bring this back, only make it a vibrant experience.

This can be in the form of placing the player in stuff like Promo classes, creating the characters behind their wrestler, and fun side missions like training for a WWE debut. There’s a lot going behind-the-scenes that fans will love to know, and the 24/7 mode can be the way to do it.

8 Falls Count Anywhere Matches Outside The Arena

In the older Smackdown! games, this actually was an option. Implementing this in a potentially ninth-generation WWE game can have many possibilities. The action can be taken to places such as the seaside, or outside onto the street.

The current Falls Count Anywhere option is basically the same gameplay only with pinning the opponent on the ground. By letting players run wild outside wherever they want, the fight will come across as a genuine one.

7 Player's Choice Of Commentators

One of the most annoying parts of playing the WWE games is to listen to the announcers prattle on about the same things. Although there has been new dialogue added in recent years, it’s still more or less the same. However, some commentators do sound better than others.

For this reason, it’ll be a worthy addition to have the ability to choose commentators. This way, those uninterested in certain individuals won’t have to listen to them anymore, instead having their gameplay be more fun with their choice of commentators.

6 Graphics That Actually Look Like Current-Gen

On paper, this sounds like an obvious request. And yet, this is one thing the WWE 2K games have done an awful job at. Seriously, the graphics of the recent entries look even worse than some PS2 games at various points.

There’s never been a 2K WWE release that’s looked like it belongs in the current generation market. With the next seemingly up for release on ninth-generation consoles, it’s high time they look the part. The game can take inspiration from other sports titles that do make the players look like real humans.

5 Return Of Road To WrestleMania Mode

The campaign modes of the WWE 2K games have been all over the place. There hasn’t been one set narrative for players to follow for years, even before 2K took over this series. The highest point of story-based challenges were the “Road to WrestleMania” modes.

Under these stories, players got fresh angles they hadn’t seen before. Unlike later games which just regurgitated real life feuds, the Road to WrestleMania should return with multiple intertwining stories to make the actual end at WrestleMania feel special.

4 Ability To Fight Inside The Crowd

The maximum degree to which a person has been able to fight among the crowds has been around the audience in selected locations. These areas are very restricted, and only come across as a gimmick since it’s a one-and-done thing.

To make things seem real, the next entry should have fights that can take place inside the crowd. This has been seen in many actual WWE fights, and these sequences are always fun. Not only will it make fights like Falls Count Anywhere mean something, it would also provide justification for the audience to be there. Also, it’ll motivate the developers to make the crowd look real for once.

3 A Simpler Create-A-Wrestler Mode

This mode used to be one of the highlights of the series. Starting off from customizing a player, it’s now morphed into something of creating a new species. Gamers love changing character appearances, but there’s just far too much for one to consider here, ranging from forehead sizes to eye colors.

The enormous amount of relatively needless stuff has had the effect of making the customizable option a chore. To this end, it’s better if the hundreds of choices are reduced to reflect quality over quantity. Superstar costumes is an area that needs more focus, while facial features, among others, have to be toned down.

2 Swapping Between Grapples And Strikes Within The Same Move

The actual fighting has been generic for a long time now. It’s usually players relying on pretty much the same grapple, after which they throw a punch or two. In order to make it resemble a legit wrestling match, an interesting concept can be to hold a move and execute another.

For instance, a grapple can be initiated, but the player can throw in kicks and punches during it. This won’t end the move, instead the player can then finish the grapple. This way, there will be more variety in gameplay, while also giving the player the advantage of getting the first punch or grapple.

1 A Players' Suite

This can be an extension of the 24/7 mode, or simply exist as its own thing. In this suite, players can be given the option to revisit their favorite matches, alter scenarios within story mode, and check out their statistics.

There’s definitely favorite moments for players that they would love to play back, and the suite can bring forward this opportunity. Along with that, it could be customized the way the person wants it to be, thereby resembling an apartment or a wrestler’s locker room.
