About a year ago, Disney officially announced Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, with the company confirming that the plot of the forthcoming animated film will involve taking its main characters Ralph and Vanellope into the worlds of the Internet and online gaming. Although he's typically not synonymous with these Web-based ventures, a recent rumor making the rounds has now suggested that Nintendo's world renowned figure Mario could be added to the cast of the sequel.

According to a listing on IMDB, Charles Martinet, the voice behind the Big N's well-known plumber mascot, will provide the vocals for the classic character in Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2. Should the post be accurate, then this will be the second instance of a Nintendo property showing up in the animated film series, as Mario's long-time antagonist and arguably the most iconic Nintendo villain, Bowser, made an appearance in the first movie.

For those who may have missed out on the first movie, the original Wreck-It Ralph focused on arcade gaming, with many 80s and 90s video game characters showing up throughout the course of the film, with such familiar faces including Pac-Man, Zangief from Street Fighter, Sonic the Hedgehog, and loads more. Now, with Mario potentially being included in the cast for the sequel, it makes one wonder how he will be incorporated into the plot.

With Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 tackling the topic of the Internet this time around, it will be interesting to see if Mario is utilized as a story device in conjunction with online gaming, or if he will be used as a simple nod to the Nintendo property due to the film being rooted in gaming culture. Considering that the Web will be emphasized in the sequel, it won't be too surprising to have some of the Internet’s most recognizable games like World of Warcraft and Fortnite threaded into the plot somehow, but as of now, Mario's role remains a mystery.

Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 is set for theatrical release on November 21, 2018
