New hero classes are always exciting, but Evokers are pretty special in that they are available exclusively to Dracthyr players. And since you can only have one Drachyr per realm, it's likely that Evokers will be relatively rare in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight in spite of the fact that they're one of the major new features of the expansions.

If you do decide to roll a Dracthyr Evoker, you'll be in for a wild ride because this class plays very differently compared to all the other ones. Couple that with the fact that we're getting brand new talent trees in Dragonflight, and it's easy to see how some players might feel a bit overwhelmed at first. Don't worry, though, because we have a couple of guides that will help you make sense of the Evoker's talent builds. In this particular one, you can find out how to optimize your Devastation Evoker.

What's New With Talents In Dragonflight?

In addition to introducing a new race/class combo, Dragonflight also brings with it new talent trees for each of the game's many specs. The trees are designed to make specs more flexible and adaptable, leaving room for more possible builds than ever better. The fact that each spec has two talent trees in Dragonflight opens up even more options.

Blizzard already made Starter Builds for each spec, but these are oftentimes focused on utility and leveling. To that end, we put together a couple of builds of our own that are meant more for the endgame since that's probably where you'll end up spending most of your time.

Evoker Class Talent Build - Dragonflight

The Evoker tree contains a lot of important talents you don't want to miss out on regardless of our playstyle. While many of these revolve around utility, there are also plenty of talents revolving around damage and support. As a Devastation Evoker, you'll want to focus primarily on DPS, but you shouldn't completely ignore the support talents if you want to bring additional value to your party.

Row 1:

Landslide gets unlocked automatically on the first row and you’ll want to spend a point to also unlock Obsidian Scales for a bit of extra defense. Expunge is very situational, but we’re taking it anyway just so we can unlock a couple of other talents on the next rows.

Row 2:

You’ll also want to get everything from the second row. Natural Convergence and Permeating Chill are pretty self-explanatory while Verdant Embrace is another healing talent we’re picking mainly so we can unlock Scarlet Adaptation on the next row, though it does have its uses even when playing a Devastation Evoker.

Row 3:

We’re first grabbing Scarlet Adaptation and Enkindled Rank 2 in order to boost our Living Flame. While not exactly the best spell in your kit, you will find yourself using it quite often. Since we grabbed Obsidian Scales earlier, we’re now picking up Obsidian Bulwark for that extra charge along with Innate Magic Rank 2. If you’re not having issues with Essence regeneration, feel free to skip that last talent.

Row 4:

Interrupts can come in handy on occasion, so you don’t want to skip Quell here, especially since it unlocks Instinctive Arcana on the next row. We’re not grabbing any other talents from the fourth row for this build but if you skipped Innate Magic earlier you could spend one of your extra points here on Tailwind.

Row 5:

Tip the Scales is very useful for every build and should never be skipped. As a Devastation Invoker, you’ll also want to grab Instinctive Arcana Rank 2 for that little bit of extra damage, which tends to add up to a lot of extra damage during long engagements. Roar of Exhilaration isn’t that great and we don’t want any talents from the right side of the tree for now, so it’s on to the next row.

Row 6:

Up next we have two defensive talents and a mobility talent. We’re not going all-in on mobility with this build, but Soar is a pretty fun ability so we’re grabbing Extended Flight Rank 2 and then we’re also getting Draconic Legacy Rank 2 for a bit of extra health. Inherent Resistance would be pretty nice to have in certain situations but we want to save some points for later, so we’re skipping it.

Row 7:

For Devastation Invokers the only must-have talent here is Blast Furnace Rank 2. Meanwhile, Panacea is needed to unlock a couple of talents on the right side, so you’ll want to get that one as well. If you want, you can skip everything else here and spend the points elsewhere but we recommend getting Exuberance if you need more mobility. Walloping Blow is another good talent, but it should be used very carefully since it can do more harm than good when you’re doing group content. Try to use it as a last resort when you find yourself overwhelmed by enemies.

Row 8:

Since we want our Devastation Evoker to focus more on AoE we can get some good use out of Protracted Talons while Renewing Blaze is a pretty decent defensive spell to have in case of emergency. Finally, you’ll want to pick up Oppressive Roar, especially if you grabbed Walloping Blow earlier.

Row 9:

Leaping Flames is needed to unlock one of the capstones we want, but we would have picked it anyway just because it gives us a bit more DPS. As far as the choice node is concerned, both talents are pretty weak. We’re going with Foci of Life for this build but if you find yourself using Renewing Blaze a lot you’ll definitely want to go with Fire Within instead.

Row 10:

Last but not least you have Terror of the Skies, which is quite powerful and Zephyr, which is situational but still nice to have during certain boss encounters.

Devastation Evoker Talent Build - Dragonflight

Devastation Evokers have a lot of interesting spells at their disposal, including a few empowered spells. Now, empowered spells are a bit tricky to work with at first, but you shouldn't shy away from using them because they're quite strong. But with or without empowered spells, Devastation Evokers excel at AoE damage so that's what we're going to focus on in this build.

Row 1:

On the first row you only have Pyre so not a lot to think about here.

Row 2:

Next up, Ruby Essence Burst and Azure Essence Burst are both pretty much mandatory due to how the tree is set up.

Row 3:

Dense Energy isn’t a vital talent, but it’s still pretty nice to have considering you’ll be using Pyre a lot. Eternity’s Surge is primarily a single-target spell but it can be empowered to hit multiple enemies so you’ll want to grab that as well. And then finally we have a choice node here where we’re going to pick Eternal Radiance. Normally, you’d probably want to skip this choice node, but you’ll need to spend a point on it to unlock Dragonrage on the next row.

Row 4:

The flat damage buff of Lay Waste Rank 2 is very good while the aforementioned Dragonrage is another must-have talent for a couple of reasons, the most important of which being the mastery benefit. The only other talent we’re getting from this row is Power Nexus so we can benefit from that extra Essence.

Row 5:

Dragonrage is great so you’ll want to pick up Animosity to increase its duration, and then Essence Attunement allows Essence Burst to stack two times, so what’s not to love? Both talents found in the choice node are pretty good, but we can only get one of them and we’re going with Engulfing Blaze since it offers better burst damage.

Row 6:

Heat Wave Rank 2, Titanic Wrath Rank 2 and Honed Aggression Rank 1 are all flat damage buffs and we don’t want to miss out on those. Meanwhile, Eternity’s Span allows our Eternity’s Surge to hit even more targets, which is fantastic for AoE. You can skip the choice node on this row if you want to get Honed Aggression Rank 2, however, Casualty allows us to use Eternity’s Surge a lot more often and we prefer that over the 5% extra damage to Azure Strike and Living Flame.

Row 7:

Catalyze is a very good synergy talent that works with most builds but especially an AoE build this one since it affects Fire Breath. The only other talent we’re going to get from this row is Tyranny, which works a bit like Dragonrage in that it allows us to gain the maximum benefit from Mastery: Giantkiller. The other two talents from this row are not bad either but we’re quickly running out of points so we’ll have to skip them, unfortunately.

Row 8:

You’ll be using Empowered Spells fairly often as a Devastation Evoker so make sure to grab Font of Magic in order to make them even better. Meanwhile, Spellweaver’s Dominance is self-explanatory. Who doesn’t want more critical damage? Everything else on this row can be skipped.

Row 9:

We want that capstone from the left side of the tree so Burnout Rank 2 is a must here. We also want the capstone in the middle and there are two ways of getting there. This is going to be a matter of preference but since we already spent a few talents improving Eternity’s Surge we might as well go all the way and grab Scintillation Rank 2 for a 15% chance of launching the spell for free when we can Disintegration. But if you want to cast all empowered spells more often, Imminent Destruction is the better choice here.

Row 10:

Everburning Flame synergizes really nicely with some of our other talents so we’re going to pick it over Feed the Flames in the choice node. And then for our final talent, we’re grabbing Hoarded Power for a chance at free Essence Bursts.

Most of the Devastation Evoker’s PvP talents are utility-based and work just fine with any build, including this one. We recommend going with any combination of Obsidian Mettle, Crippling Force, Chrono Loop, Unburdened Flight, and Nullifying Shroud.
