Gamers have had some solid opportunities to spend a huge amount of money on merchandise recently. Just one example is the Devil May Cry 5 collector's edition which includes a recreation of Dante's outfit, valued at almost $8,000. But if people still have money burning a hole in their pocket, then this new high-end piece of merch may do the trick.
Today, Brikk, a retailer that sells luxury electronic items has announced its latest product: the Lux DualShock 4 controller for PS4. The Brikk version of the PS4 controller is available in two versions: classic and deluxe. The classic version is gold-plated and features a solid 18K gold, diamond-encrusted (F/G color and clarity, 0.25 Carats) PlayStation button while the rest of the buttons are the standard version from a normal controller. Meanwhile, the deluxe version features nine solid 18K gold buttons (the PlayStation button, the symbols, and the d-pad) and are encrusted with conflict-free diamonds (F/G, 2.20 Carats).
For added customization, says Brikk, buyers can also choose to plate the Lux DualShock 4 with platinum, rose gold, black rhodium, or rainbow titanium. Meanwhile, the buttons can be made out of different elements and can be encrusted with rubies, sapphires, emeralds, and "many other precious stones." The controller will take between three and four weeks to ship, says Brikk, but it's unclear if this also includes versions that have been customized from the default look.
These controllers don't come cheap, though, as prices start at $8,495 and can go all the way up to $13,995. While the average gamer probably isn't going to buy this, this pricey peripheral may suit some celebrity gamers who really want to flex their finances. Given that Brikk also boasts the ability to configure each Lux DualShock 4 with "game specific" configurations that are uniquely crafted to exacting specifications," this may also appeal to a few pro gamers who want a fun way to spend their tournament winnings.
The Brikk PS4 controller is a novelty - it's probably too heavy to be used comfortably for long durations and there's no telling how rough the diamonds feel during button-mashing sessions. But with that said, people have used far sillier (albeit far cheaper) controllers when playing games. Players have used bananas to control Winston in Overwatch, a baguette to control Widowmaker, and a dance mat to play Dark Souls. Arguably, all of these controller configurations are as ridiculous as each other.
