Disney Plus had a widely successful year and released tons of new movies and tv shows, so it’s time to take a look back at them now that 2022 is finally coming to an end. A majority of their projects were positively received by audiences and critics alike, with some of their worst shows of 2022 out-performing multiple series of years past.

Rotten Tomatoes ranked every new project the popular streaming service had to offer, and Disney Plus managed to avoid any big blunders. The five shows listed below might be the worst of the year, but aren’t bad shows by any means.

There are plenty of other shows available on Disney Plus that received lower scores than the series on this list, but were excluded because they either weren’t Disney Plus originals or were released prior to 2022. All shows mentioned below were created by Disney, for Disney, and were released this year. Shows are ranked according to their Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer score, which is the score given to projects by critics. In the event of a Tomatometer tie, the series will be ranked according to audience ratings.

Baymax!

Baymax! brought back the adorable Big Hero Six character fans loved from the original movie. All six episodes are around 11 minutes long and follow Baymax as he tries to help the people of San Fransokyo. The series, which began streaming on June 29th, scored an 86% on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer.

Other shows like Moon Knight and Limitless with Chris Hemsworth scored an 86% on the Tomatometer, as well, but were bumped from the list of the worst shows, because of their higher audience scores. Moon Knight had an 89% audience rating and Limitless scored an 85%, whereas Baymax! only received 56%.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law was met with mixed reviews from the moment it premiered on August 18th and many Marvel fans either loved or hated the series. She-Hulk was definitely unlike anything Marvel has done before and its 85% Tomatometer score puts the nine-episode legal comedy above previous MCU shows like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Rotten Tomatoes still ranks mega-hits like Loki and Ms. Marvel above She-Hulk, and the story of Jennifer Walters only received a 33% audience ranking.

Willow

Obi-Wan Kenobi isn’t the only show to have drawn inspiration from the mind of George Lucas this year, as seen with the release of Disney’s new Willow series. Willow was inspired by the 1988 film of the same name, which was also created by George Lucas, and the show follows a group of heroes while they embark on a dangerous, fantastical adventure.

The six-episode series received a Tomatometer score of 84% and began streaming on November 30th, making it one of Disney Plus’ last new projects of the year. Willow scored a 32% audience rating, which is the lowest audience score on the list.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

obiwan2(1)

Obi-Wan Kenobi comes in with a Tomatometer score of 82%, which puts it far ahead of the lowest-rated show of the year. All six episodes of the miniseries take place between George Lucas’ Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

The series details the events of Obi-Wan Kenobi trying to save Princess Leia after she’s been kidnaped and pits the Jedi master against his former pupil, Annakin Skywalker, who’s since turned to the dark side and taken the name Darth Vader. When stacked against all the other big hits of the year, Obi-Wan Kenobi unfortunately falls short.

Rotten Tomatoes does give Obi-Wan a higher ranking than other Star Wars projects like The Book of Boba Fett, but the series didn’t achieve the same level of success as other 2022 releases from the franchise, such as Andor. Obi-Wan Kenobi came to Disney Plus on May 27th and scored a 63% audience rating.

The Santa Clauses

The Santa Clauses premiered on November 16th and is based on Tim Allen’s beloved The Santa Clause movie trilogy, which has been a family favorite ever since the original film hit theaters in 1994. The new series follows Tim Allen’s Scott Calvin as he realizes he can’t be Santa forever and goes on a quest to find the perfect replacement as he plans to enter retirement.

The Santa Clauses might score 100% in terms of nostalgia, but only managed to rank 53% on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer, making this the worst Disney Plus original series of the year. The six-episode series scored a 67% rating with audiences, which is ironically the highest audience score on the list.
