World of Warcraft has been around for over a decade, but it still dominates the massively multiplayer online industry. Much of its success comes from its ability to captivate players and drive them to ‘grind’ for the latest and greatest loot. Developer Blizzard has also worked diligently to offer fun and engaging add-on content for players to enjoy in World of Warcraft.

One of the possible upcoming add-ons was discovered by Wowhead thanks to some datamining efforts. They discovered that World of Warcraft is planning to release a new companion, or pet, for players to enjoy: the infamous Left Shark.

For those who didn’t watch this year’s Super Bowl, Left Shark refers to one of the costumed backup dancers who captured attention and fame while on stage with Katy Perry during the halftime show. Viewers quickly noted the shark’s off-beat dancing and high-energy excitement.

The Left Shark quickly spawned its own Twitter account and meme online, helping increase the dancer’s popularity and fame. Now, it looks like World of Warcraft players will have their own Left Shark by their side, excitedly taking on enemy companions and bringing a smile to players’ faces.

Wowhead shared a description of the Left Shark:

“Who would leave such a cute shark behind? The Iron Horde truly has no soul. The location of this NPC is unknown.”

Little else is known about the Left Shark companion in World of Warcraft, including location or release date. However, we do know it will have a couple unique abilities, including Rain Dance and Dazzling Dance, both of which will provide support to surrounding players.

While the idea of the Left Shark in World of Warcraft may sound silly, its inclusion shows the unique and unpredictable nature of the game. When Left Shark makes it to World of Warcraft, we have no doubt there will be a lot of sharks swimming and dancing around Azeroth.

Blizzard hasn’t commented yet on Left Shark’s presence in the game, though we’re confident the companion will make it to the game soon if there's already info in the code. Prior to releasing patches, Blizzard tests their updates in a special test server and it sounds like this is where Wowhead discovered the Left Shark.

In the end, we’re really not concerned about why Blizzard is making the addition. Honestly, we’re just excited to see Left Shark making its way to World of Warcraft.
