There are areas that were once great cities and were home to thriving individuals that were either corrupted or killed in a terrible event. Some of the creepier areas are still used for content to this day and might continue to serve a purpose in future expansions.

10 Ruins of Lordaeron

This place gives off one of the most haunting vibes and is one of the most interesting locations in the game. It has a long history that is rich with lore. Once the great city of Lordaeron, all that remains is a memory of a capital city that is still haunted by terrible deeds.

The newest expansion, Battle For Azeroth left the ruins even more destroyed by Sylvanas. It's a city with deep roots into the former Lich King, Arthas' storyline.

9 Karazhan

Karazhan was once home to the guardian, Medivh. The area surrounding this abandoned tower is just as creepy. Players will have to travel through Deadwind Pass to reach it. Karazhan was used for a raid during The Burning Crusade expansion and was revisited in Legion.

It's an extremely creepy place with some interesting lore. It'll be interesting to see if the tower is ever used again in a future expansion. It's a fun raid that is still worth visiting to this day as it has a couple of cool collectibles as well as an awesome mount.

8 Darkmoon Faire

The Darkmoon Faire appears once a month and typically lasts a week from its start date. It's a big celebration that takes players away from the tiresome adventures around Azeroth and allows them to hang back with friends and other players.

There are rides, games, challenges, and more at the Darkmoon Faire. However, outside of the Faire lies some very eerie woods that seem extremely odd. The woods just seem very mysterious as if they have a dark secret waiting to be discovered. Whether this dark secret will be uncovered anytime soon is still to be determined.

7 Duskwood

After questing in Westfall for some time, players may choose to start questing in Duskwood. This area is home to a bunch of creepy creatures that have been tormenting nearby farmsteads and villages.

It's the perfect place for any fans of horror games and has a very interesting storyline. Most of the quests are only available to Alliance characters but players should be wary of lurking horde players around the area.

6 Stratholme

Stratholme was once a highly populated city within the Kingdom of Lordaeron. The Order of the Silver Hand was founded and this was a big part of Arthas Menethil's storyline. It was here that he set himself on the path to becoming to Lich King after he purged the city to stop the scourge from taking it over.

It now remains a memory of the dark deeds committed by the once great prince. Players can enter the Culling of Stratholme instance to see how to story played out during these events.

5 Icecrown

While Icecrown was definitely a very creepy zone back in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. It now remains an even creepier area that'll be playing a big part in the Shadowlands expansion. It's a frozen waste where armies of the scourge roam.

It's home to the huge fortress where players once fought against Arthas Menethil. The fortress now is home to Bolvar Fordragon, the new Lich King. Icecrown is an interesting area to quest in as it has such a cool ominous feel to it.

4 Scarlet Monastery

Scarlet Monastery is the home to the Scarlet Crusade, a group that's dedicated themselves to getting rid of the undead. A lot of the quests throughout the Eastern Kingdoms tie into their lore and there are multiple dungeons within the Monastery.

The area is usually used for the Halloween event as it's really one of the most perfect locations to capture the Halloween spirit. The dungeons have been revamped and still hold up fairly well.

3 Western Plaguelands

The entire area of the Western Plaguelands is filled with sick creatures and destroyed houses and buildings. It was once a beautiful area before it was plagued. It's one of the most interesting questing zones in the game for players around levels 35 through 60.

The Scarlet Crusade plays a big part in the storyline for the Western Plaguelands. It's home to the Scholomance dungeon and looks a lot better than the Eastern Plaguelands that it's connected to. It's a pretty creepy area with a lot of disturbing lore tied to it.

2 Naxxramas

Most players can agree that Naxxramas is one of the creepiest and most disturbing instances in the game. Screams can be heard in a certain part of the instance that might make players turn around and think twice about completing the raid.

The screams are seriously extremely terrifying and it's quite surprising that this area has never been used for a Halloween event. The raid itself has a lot of interesting lore tied to it and some pretty cool transmog to collect.

1 Drustvar

Drustvar is a zone in Kul Tiras that's rich with witchcraft and sinister lore. Most of the storyline has to do with House Waycrest, a powerful family within Kul Tiras. Out of most of the leveling zones in Battle for Azeroth, Drustvar is one of the most interesting.

It stands out with its very dark atmosphere and mysterious landscapes. The story is surprisingly really deep and gets pretty disturbing towards the end of it.
