Now that World of Warcraft Classic has launched, fans have taken to Twitch en masse to watch some of their favorite streamers take to the nostalgic-looking realm and have a stroll down memory lane. One of the most popular streamers last night was Asmongold, a World of Warcraft main who had accumulated some 150,000 viewers as he began leveling up his character. Since World of Warcraft was his bread and butter, he had accumulated the biggest viewership out of any World of Warcraft Classic streamer on Twitch last night.

Unfortunately, the streamer's progress hit a brick wall when the game suddenly disconnected him from the server. The immediate shock on his face was evident, with his comment stream exploding as fans reacted to what was unfolding. The developers had expected long server queue times due to how many gamers wanted to jump into the fold, and poor Asmongold was left watching as his new spot in the back of the queue meant many hours of expected wait time before he could get back into the mix. The most-watched World of Warcraft Classic streamer had effectively just been given a four-hour cooldown.

As the queue tracker showed he was some 20,000 spots away from rejoining, Asmongold could do nothing but hold his head in both hands as viewers commented on the incident and offered suggestions. Asmongold rebuffed ideas that he could use his influence as a streamer to get Blizzard to do something, and at one began speculating that he may have been sniped by a DDOS attack by someone who recognized him by his in-game name.

Whatever caused his disconnect, there wasn't anything that Asmongold could do: after half an hour of waiting for any signs that the queue might move quickly (it didn't), the streamer admitted defeat, took off his headphones, and decided to have a nap while the game waited to reconnect to the server. He left the Twitch stream running, with viewers joking that he had truly gotten the full experience that 2004-2006 era World of Warcraft provided.

It's not all bad for Asmongold, though: when the sun began to rise, the streamer was able to reconnect and is now streaming to some 100,000 viewers as he levels up his character once again. While he lost a third of his viewers due to the unfortunate disconnection, he still has nearly double the next-most popular stream, which is indicative of the pull Asmongold has when it comes to World of Warcraft. Despite the setback, it's bound to be a great week for the streamer - assuming the disconnects don't keep happening in the middle of his streams.

World of Warcraft Classic is available now on PC and Macintosh.
