BlizzCon 2018 is quickly approaching and with it the first demo for World of Warcraft Classic. Announced one month ago, the World of Warcraft Classic demo will be available to both attendees of BlizzCon 2018 as well as purchasers of the BlizzCon Virtual Ticket. Now Blizzard is filling in the details regarding what players can expect from the demo, including what kinds of modern updates Blizzard will be made to World of Warcraft Classic in time for the demo.

As previously revealed, the scope of the demo will allow for players to quest and level within two different classic, pre-Cataclysm zones. Those zones are now confirmed to be Westfall for the Alliance and the Barrens for Horde. Players will start at level 15, so as to provide access to a variety of unique skills, and can quest and battle up to a level 19 cap. Multiple characters and classes will be available so players can experiment, but there are limitations.

Blizzard has decided that, because BlizzCon attendees will only have limited access to the World of Warcraft Classic demo, so too must Virtual Ticket buyers. That means players will be logged out to make room for others after a certain period of time. Players will be able to log back into their character later, but only after an as-yet-undetermined waiting period.

While Blizzard will be preserving World of Warcraft Classic's content and gameplay experience, it's also making some quality of life changes to the game to bring it up to modern standards. Some things are obvious, like adapting vanilla World of Warcraft to launch from the Battle.net client. Other changes will feel natural, like being able to report other players. Some will be invisible, like Blizzard's anti-cheat efforts. And then there're accessibility changes like colorblind mode.

The World of Warcraft Classic BlizzCon demo may sound rather limiting, but that's the intent. Blizzard is only offering a tantalizing taste, something to nurture fans' nostalgia. There's also likely an amount of testing going into the demo, as Blizzard prepares the rather unprecedented relaunch of a game over 10-years-old. There will be plenty of World of Warcraft Classic in the relatively near future, past the demo.

World of Warcraft Classic has no current release date and will be available exclusively on PC.
